This has most likley been asked before, but which mags are better? If you could choose between a new Orlite or a new Steel one? Is there a quality differencebetween them. Thanks!!

I use Orlite mags only, they are more dependable, don't ding in the sides and hamper feeding. I have one steel mag and it is like new and doesnt feed reliably in any of my weapons. JMHO

Steel mags, Orlite mags, M16 mags with adaptor (new or old mags)- all run 100 percent for me. I have never had a FTF with my Galil.

But then it is an IMI Galil, not one Century monkeys put together. :confused

Hey, I got the money in it, so I feel why not gloat every one in a while :D

Some Century monkey thrown togethers feed from steel Galil and adapter fed AR magazines like great. Never tried an orlite. Have a couple of AK mags that will fit and lock in but wrong caliber, likely would not feed .223/5.56 rounds.
"No gotte" genuine IMI rifle but have the next best thing, a Galil/Golani.

So far, I've been through about a dozen .223 Galils (IMIs, clone builds by 3 reputable builders and even a reweld) and ALL of them worked great with both the Orilites and steel. The Orlite mags were new or like new. Steel mags were also new or like new. All the common sizes, 12s, 35s and 50s. Don't mess around with those used pieces of crap mags the kits or Century builds come with. Somewhere I have a box of them. Just too much frustration.

I have a couple UA mag adapters too.

If new mags don't work for you, your Galil is out of spec. Send the gun to TennGalil.

My preference is Orlite.

I don't know about the Orlites as I have not purchased any of them but I do have a small variety of steel mags. Some are genuine IMI and others are some other contract mags I believe from South America or something. I had to do some maintenance to the SA ones but so far they have been 100%. I replaced the springs with extra power ar-15 springs and they work great. I recently bought a small bolt cutter so I was able to cut the bend in the spring that normally fits in to the ar-15 follower so it fits nicely in to the Galil follower in the mag to ensure better function.

My Galil is made by TennGalil. So I know its great! I was about to drop some cash a some mags, didnt know which ones to go with. I would like to buy new ones, I know there out there but expensive. However Im willing to make the investment. My Orlites fit without any wobble, but the two steel ones(SADF, and IDF) rock back and forth but feed. I wish someone made new springs!

I only have steel mags, but I have probably nearly 100 of them. All function in my IMI guns and the IMI mags work in all my guns. However, some of the non-IMI mags either won't feed reliably, or in some cases won't even lock up, in my non-IMI guns. All my non-IMI guns are built on ORF receivers. Most of those that don't work on on the ORF receiver guns can be made to work with a little grinding using a dremel.

Anyone used promag? A friend w/ an AR swears by them. I've seen them available for the golani but are way more expensive than the tapco's. Should I just spring for the tapco or are the promags a lot better?

Thanks in advance.

Just friggin buy all the types of IMI mags (Steel, Orlite, R-4) to support your IMI rifle.

That way you'll have different choices. Choices are good.

I have never used any Promags for the Galil. But I have a couple I bought for other guns before I new better. They are somewhere in the bottom of a junk box with a few USA brand mags. My experience maybe a fluke, I don't know.

I would stick with new or like new factory original steel or orlite mags. I have never regretted spending to much on a mag that works all the time. I have had many regrets over so called deals but, I have learned the hard way.

Surplus mags are a roll of the dice, some feed good some don't.It can be hit or miss.Tapco's are made the same and they feed flawlessly. Now I'm not a die hard Tapco fan but I like reliability.Promag on the other hand feed well but they seem a little flimsy and not very durable in my opinion.

Both steel and Orlite have their positives and negatives.
Personally,I prefer the steel mags, but I also have a ton of the Orlite's too.
Get both and you will be good to go.

Of the mags I have on hand now, they are the only ones that work 100% in my Golani.
