Lol I appreciate all the interest in this thing. It's essentially the bone stock AA SABRE design that people seem to complain about (weight, disassembly, cost, etc). The model files are readily available for anyone to make one. I'd put my money on the M11/15. It'll be a big improvement over anything I did here.

I need this upper as I found 2 crates of 7.62x39 I forgot I had......with no weapon to shoot it out of. This would be a good use of it.

Haha well. It's probably because it's the stock Alliance Armament SABRE design. I didn't change anything other than to make the magwell fit the AK mags properly. It has all the shortcomings everyone complained about (and still complains about). The M11/15 design will address these issues.

FYI. I'm totally not trying to discourage people from pursuing this build. It's super fun. I just want it to be clear that this wasn't my design, rather I built the AA SABRE AK design and made minor tweaks to it for it to function right. I honestly think the complaints about it are rather unwarranted, but that's for others to decide.

I agree, they're not a bad upper at all.
Most people have this idea that they'll be getting either a Max31 size/weight or an AR/AK size/weight, which it is neither.
Had they continued on this path there would have been much improvements on these uppers as well.
Lots of simple things they could have incorporated if they were successful, as we're pretty much looking at prototypes that were rushed into production.
The good is definitely there.

A little extra weight for something chambered in 7.62x39 isn't a bad thing. I wish I could get the drawings to open up so I could scale them to start getting one going for my M10/9.

I completely agree. I really wouldn't want it lighter. It's pleasant to shoot now - and has enough recoil for it to be fun.

If you have SolidWorks -

1. File -> Open. Select the dwg file.
2. An Import dialog will show. Choose "Import to a New Part" and "3D Curves or Model"
3. You're set. The files contain the whole assembly, so you'll need to hide features to get at what you want.

The M10 AK Sabre files are in there too - so you won't need to modify the M11 version.

If you just want to see the files, use the free Autodesk 360 Viewer - https://a360.autodesk.com/viewer/

I'll have to try it again. Would love to get one of these rolling for my M10/9. I have a cnc mill sitting here at work but I would most likely do it at home on my Bridgeport. Don't need prying eyes asking what I'm doing even though I'm one of the higher ups LOL

Is there any service where someone could send in a solidworks file and have it CNC milled? Like Shapeways but bigger?

I say we organize a group buy for this project (CNC the aluminum haves) and I will track down a machinist willing to take this on. I am new to the forum and not a machinist and do not work for a company that does CNC work.
