I just received my MAX-11A1/15, hooray Richard, Jackie and team! Now I need to build it out and am asking for some recommendations from those of you who have already done so.

Specifically, if I were to mount a Trijicon RMR or some other low profile sights, what buttstock or stock adapter (with a standard buffer tube sporting a Magpul stock) makes a good combination for a good sight picture with a solid cheek weld? What stock adapter and stock if I mounted something higher like an ACOG?

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I tried it with the Holosun low mount and the folding K stock but I felt like the check mount was still too low.

I tried with Richards polymer stock and the Holosun AR mount. The red dot is a bit too high.

I'm pretty sure the way Richard has it in on his website is the best way, low mount +1/3 co witness riser + polymer or Magput stock.

I plan on testing the ACOG with the 18" barrel next.

Thanks so much for chiming it. Lord knows I have consigned enough parts to the parts bin over the years that I should take a table at a gun show. I have some things laying around to tack on and try and will report.

I went with the Trijicon Acog with the red cross reticle and love it and so does everybody that looks through it. Have the Lage long left side folder but it's an M11/9.

Thanks to all for weighing in!

Has anyone tried an AR buffer tube screwed into an AR stock adapter (which one from Lage?) and a Rogers Super Stock or something from Magpul for a more authentic AR look, and length of pull adjustability?

I used part #600 from Lage. Attached a side folding ar mechanism from double star. Screwed in ar buffer tube, and put Magpul Ctr stock on. Note: I milled the back end off the tube, so I can use it to store my nfa paperwork in there.

Red dots suck, IMO. Primary 3x Prism is what I run on 5.56 guns. That or a Burris 1-4x.

Etched reticles beat the hell out of even the "best" holo or red dot. At least to my old eyes.

I sold off eotechs and aimpros once I strapped a Primary 3x on my 16" AR. At 250 yds or under, I can nock the nuts off a gnat with 55gr and a primary arms prism.

I think I'd like that setup. Side folder, buffer tube and CTR on the back of the gun provides 100% AR look and great function. That looks like an Aimpoint on there, which get everything about as low as you can go. Do you get proper sight picture with a a solid cheek weld? If so I think that would be the best way to accurately fire an open bolt gun.

I used the LAGE folder that I've had on that gun for a few years. I had a Leupold HAMR w/Deltapoint sitting around so I decided to give it a try. It gives me a nice clear 4x scope + a red dot on top. Hopefully I'll get it out to the range this weekend.

Let me know how it works for you. I have so many parts and holsters gathering dust, your input help me and other keep from collecting excess parts. I'm still leaning toward the recommendations Offmarksman put out here/.

I suggest that if you decide to go this route that instead of a conventional AR type buffer tube to mount the stock, you consider using a KynSHOT RB5100 Hydraulic Recoil Buffer tube assembly. Probably at the "M" setting.

MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well.

Thank you for your KynSHOT recommendation.

I checked my parts bin and found an old ITT Enidine Shot Shock I picked up about a decade ago. It's not adjustable. It's valved/sprung for an 870. Maybe it will be a bit stiff, 12 gauge vs 5.56, but since 5.56 will be full auto, maybe it will be OK. If you could tell me, for what other guns does KynSHOT recommend the "M" setting>

I think I'll give your recommended setup a shot with the ITT Enidine unit. I'll see how it works and report back.

Thanks again!

The KynSHOT website seemed a little vague to me so I emailed the vendor that I bought from - NoKick (who does have some guidance on their website) with regard to specific usage settings. I was particularly interested in what I should use for a Mossberg 500 shooting 1 oz. slugs (deer hunting), and this was their reply to my inquiry:
"Hello,
The low damping setting is just for light stuff like low recoil loads and bird shot. For magnums and turkey loads is always the high damped setting. For standard power buckshot and slug loads some people go for medium and some for high and either would work. To avoid experimenting, just go with the high setting.
Thank you,
Nokick.com"
Based on the NoKick recommendations quoted above (and my own experience with a variety of AR-15/M16 hydraulic buffers from Enidine, KynSHOT, and B & T), your ITT Enidine Shot Stock may work nicely. That said, the early production Enidine hydraulic buffers did have a history of developing leakage.

Best of luck, and I look forward to reading of your experience.

MHO, YMMV, etc. Be well.

It is my understanding that only the Max-11/15 (the Lage 5.56X45 upper for the M11/NINE) that uses a standard carrier could be configured for use with an AR buffer and spring. Both the Max-10/15 and the Max-11A1/15 uses a custom carrier built by Lage Manufacturing. There is no option to use the AR buffer and spring in either the M11 sized, or M10 lower receiver. Since so few wanted the AR buffer and spring option, that system will no longer produced. Once the current inventory of parts is sold the AR buffer and spring system will be discontinued.

Thank you for enlightening me. Since I already have the ITT tube it costs me nothing to try it out.

On as aside, as I get older, I fear the term "leakage" more when associated with tings other than buffers. ;)

My MAX 11a1/15 has the IRM, so if I use an AR 15 buffer tube it will not contain a spring and buffer. It will function solely as a stock. I want the stock to provide a good cheek weld, good sight picture and, to the extent possible, classic AR look.
