Are there any other types of loaders that work with the lage magazines? I hand loaded a few mags after the loader broke on the second mag of the day..bummer.

hand loading it worked, but it was tedious and you couldnt load them to capacity.

I saw a fix where someone JB welded a roofing nail to the inside of the loader. are there any other fixes or products besides Lage's? I dont have that many rounds down the pipe of the 22 and it seems like a weak link.

The Butler Creek Hot Lips Speed Loader is my next investment. Richard sells an adapter that allows you to use it with the BD 22 mags. You can superglue the little piece back on to your loader though in the meantime.

I've had a Butler Creek "Hot Lips" loader for years but I don't shoot my 10/22s much these days so it's sat around collecting dust. These do a great job with the Ruger mags, so I got the drop in adapter from Lage Mfg. to try it with his 40 round, M-11/22 mags produced by Black Dog. I used it today for the first time, and while there's a learning curve, I soon found my rhythm and loading was a breeze. It must have looked like I was having a lot of fun cranking the loading knob or maybe I wasn't loading mags fast enough because the wife wanted to try loading mags for herself.

I had a match this morning that ran until late in the afternoon, so our time this afternoon was limited to my wife putting a 100 rounds through her carry gun, and quick test of the M11/22 upper. (it's AWESOME, but more on that later), Based on my experience with loading almost a full brick of Federal value pack ammo with the loader, I'll be ordering additional mags, another Butler Creek Hot Lips Speed loader, and another Lage adapter for the loader so two people can load mags at the same time. I wasn't counting, but I didn't get every magazine completely full each time using the loader, but close enough for testing today. Like I said, I found my rhythm but not until we were almost done.

IMHO, this accessory is a must have, and I'm buying a back up so we can load mags twice as fast.
Retail on the Butler Creel loaders is are about $25.00 to $30.00... Short money for a nice product.

Here's a video of this loader in action for those of you who may be unfamiliar with it's function.

the adapter and loader are the ticket
I found that epoxying the adapter into the loader made it a lot smoother process
it works so well, I have a backup adapter and backup loader just in case the world ends and I somehow screw up my first ones

Beer is fun too!! I've used my adapter A LOT. After I got a rhythm down I rarely get a crossed rim, or a malfunction. I'm gonna pick up a box of .22's tomorrow and shoot. I haven't shot in months, I work too damn much.

I ordered one on Thursday. Amazon has them for $24.14. Spend .86cents more and get free shipping. I bought some hoppes to bring it up. I can always use more hoppes.

Got a link please?
That's a great price on the BC Hot Lips speed loader, I desperately need more Hoppes. Sounds like my kind of deal.

Thanks for the links guys. I'll get the BC loader and Hoppes ordered this weekend.
I ordered four more Lage .22 magazines today and another BC speed loader adapter.

I put 20 rounds in my Butler Creek loader and them put a mark with a sharpie. When I load a mag I grab enough to fill it to that mark, load those then repeat. Then you know you have 40 rounds in the mag. (I actually put in 18 the second time and only fill mine to 38)

I also drilled witness holes in my mags, one at first to test for interference then the rest. All run prefect and now I can tell, roughly, how many rounds left in the mag.

Just a note about the mags and B.C. loader. I loaded all 7 tonight in advance of my child bride blowing through a ton of ammo tomorrow at the club. I noticed the original mags we've already used loaded much easier than the new mags I received yesterday, and one in particular was a real bugger to load. I unloaded it by hand and tried reloading it again thinking I had crossed some rims. It was the same. I'm hoping it's not problematic and I expect it'll loosen up with some use. So this is just a heads up that the new mags will likely need some breaking in before they are easy to load with the Butler Creek loader but I'd be interested in other's experience on this subject.

*It's worth noting that Klyph12 had a great idea about marking the 20 round spot on the B.C. loader. I did that today and I'm also under loading the mags by a couple of rounds for reliability and to prevent undue loading of the springs or potentially crack or stress the mags. I know some folks aren't happy unless or until they cram a magazine to it's absolutely capacity but I'm not one of those people. I used a black Sharpie to mark both sides of the loader and it's a worth while mod in my opinion. Thanks Klyph! Nice tip! A simple solution to keeping track of the rounds going in the mags that never would have occurred to me. I would be interested in seeing and hearing a little more on your witness holes if possible. What shape and size? Did you use a drill and bit? How many holes and did you do both sides of the mag or did you go with the front or rear?

I received the four additional .22 Lage mags yesterday along with the pair of $40.00 Soumi coffin mags I ordered from Ohio Ordnance. I was mumbling something about the price of plastic mags being the same as the all steel 50 round Soumi mags when my wife straightened my ass right out. She explained the cost savings with the .22LR conversion and how much fun it will be... for her. Additionally she was NOT happy that we have a mere 7 mags for the conversion, and that I failed to order the extra Butler Creek loader even though I did get an extra adapter from Richard with the mags.

My daughter was over with her boyfriend for dinner last night when the box containing the coffin mags was being opened. He's shot the MAX-11 and knows about coffin mags but made the mistake to question whether I really needed any more. Well, she quickly educated him too. I've got a great wife who's never once questioned what I buy or spend on toys, but this sudden interest in guns and ammo is interesting. She has been watching Doomsday Preppers and told me we need more guns and ammo. I just laughed but I did order another 200 rounds of 6.5 Swede today. ;)

Should I be worried about this behavior?

Vegas,

If I were in your shoes I would consider myself a lucky man... nothing wrong with a spouse that wants more guns and ammo. ;)

Cherish it! We are almost there... my wife lets me take care of the guns and ammo, I let her take care of the food stores. I'm also lucky that she has let me do all my gun projects over the last few years and has actually stopped giving crap when I go out back to "test" things out :) This year is dedicated to her and the house. We just finished up redoing the upstairs bathroom. Next is new kitchen counter tops, then a new tub.

Regarding M11/22 mags... I got my kit with only one magazine. I probably shot at least 3500 rounds using that one mag. When I received my new mags, I noticed that the new springs were noticeably stronger then the old springs, but all of them function just fine.

And kudos to klyph12 with the loading and magazine mod. Six weeks to the A.S.S. (Action Shooting Sports) shoot :)

Witness holes

It is impossible to see though the mags, so loaded one without the spring to get an idea of where the last round would be, and marked it. Then I just eyeballed half way to the top then split that in half, ending with 5 holes total. (3/16 bit) I have 6 mags after test firing the first one, I switched to 4 holes using the writing on the mag to put the holes in approximately the same place. I only put holes on one side. It was not very exact, but close enough for my use. Most of the time they are shot empty, but this will give an idea of how many rounds are left. BTW, the holes required no clean up on the inside, I just drilled, loaded and ran them.

The top mag is empty and bottom has 39 rounds in it,

hope the pic shows
