Max 31k interest?

I also love the 31A. Far from ugly in my book, and has enough out front to "steer" it. I prefer not to use a vertical foregrip, and while I have never handled a 31K, I feel sure the grip would be difficult around a drum without a vertical foregrip. I also feel that the K version on an M11/9 would look really odd and unbalanced, with the M11/9 long receiver in the rear and a short front end ahead of the drum. As far as a PDW type weapon ? Hardly would work for one of them with a drum anyhow. Hopefully Lage will make them at some point for you guys that want them, but they wouldn't be for me.

I really want a drum upper, would prefer a smaller package then the Max-31. I wonder how hard is it to grip with a drum inserted? Anyone with the small frame Max31K have an answer?


And is there any chance of the 31K in the next 2 years considering the Max11/15 line would take precedence?

no issue getting your hand around the grip...ive got a lage vertical grip on mine...which it seems 95% of people do anyways...

buy a 11a1 to get the goodies!!!...you guys with m11/9's get everything..let the a1 keep something special all to itself!

Most? Idk, but I believe a good number would opt for it, myself including. You are correct, you would see a ton of 11/31s for sale if that happened.

A gunsmith should offer a service to cut down regular 31s and make 31K’s

I’ve never bought a 31a and never will. Plenty WOULD buy a 31k.

The little extra rear section of the 11/9 doesn’t mean it needs a carbine length front to match.

It’s an MG. Class3 guys like the exotic, not some long mofo hanging out into the next county when they know full well a “K” version exists.

If I were wrong, there would be zero market for SBRs and SBSs (of which I own).

Yes, it has been done by a member of this forum. I can't recall who it was but if you do a search it should pop up.

Machinists are more than $100 an hour and it’s more than an hours work. Plus the barrel needs to be cut and rethreaded.

Maybe so. The end cap gives you some wiggle room on exactly how pretty it would have to be though.

The tricky thing might be the bolt.

Maybe you could ask Lage to sell you a max31 mkii shell plus a 31a bolt and 31a unmounted barrel and go from there

People keep asking about this. I get the desire but am I missing something here? Why cut down a MAX-31 when you can go the other way? Shouldn't it be fairly trivial to machine a block to extend the rear of the 31K? Picturing it mentally: You mill a billet for the M11/9 lower and 31K upper and drill for clearance for the ejector rod and recoil spring. MAX-31 recoil plate, recoil rod, recoil spring, and ejector rod behind the block, 31K bolt and buffer in front of the block. That's just visualizing it mentally without one in front of me. I strongly suspect it's possible to do so and allow full travel of the bolt. Sure you don't have the rearmost inch of rail but you have a functioning 31K upper for an M11/9 and that's a hell of a lot more than you had before.

Yep. I think you are correct that it was rybread. I thought for sure it was a 31 and not the 31a. Maybe he can dig up the photos. And I could be wrong. It has been a while.
