I wonder if there's any solid data on the top cover plate warning stamping on Micros?
If I understand correctly, the SMG version was developed AFTER the semi pistol had been on the market for some time?
The warnings obviously were a hold over from the carbines from Action Arms.
So... any solid data on how factory Micros were stamped? I have heard from reliable sources seeing demilled kits with marked top covers.
Maybe it was an export gun thing?
Anybody have/see any LEO samples and how they were marked? IDF issued guns?
Why the question?
Well, if you're going to the expense of restoring a conversion to "original specs"...what were those specs?
Maybe Dave can chime in? I don't remember that particular point in his book, but it's been awhile since I read it thoroughly.

Yes, the Micro came after the semi UZI Pistol. I have seen a few factory Micro's that are stamped Micro UZI Pistol. First one I saw like that was in Andrew Clyde's booth at the 2004 Knob Creek Shoot. He told me it was definitely a factory Micro Post sample. I think he is totally right as if you look at the serial number, the Uzi Pistol's were stamped UP in front of the serial number and this one wasn't. Just numbers. It had the bayo lug, folding stock, the trigger guard was rounded not angled and markings were not the typical ARS but AFS. Had the correct grips like you find on the Mini and full size. As the angled grips on the pistol are for use without a stock. Had the sling swivel on the front sight too. I think clearly an early transition example. I have seen another very similar to this one. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the topcover.
Andrew also had a factory post sample Mini UZI in .40SW and the topcover did have the warning crap on it. So I think it is entirely possible to have a factory gun with those topcovers.

I had the same questions when I was bringing my Micro to 'spec'. I sanded the markings off the topcover, parkerized and then used Norrell's Moly Resin on it.

I think every Micro UZI I've seen had the markings on the top cover plate. That includes guns I saw at the IWI factory, museum guns in Belgium, and dealer sample guns. I also had a factory replacement top cover still in the factory wrapper and it had the markings on it. The semi-auto UZI pistol was designed first, for the U.S. civilian market, and they probably put the warnings in the stamping dies for the top cover plate. There wouldn't be any reason for them to make new stamping dies just to get rid of the markings. Bottom line, if you want your gun to look factory original, it should have the warnings on the top cover plate.

Fascinating. I guess I am going to have to reconsider scrubbing that stupid looking warning now. There's a back story to it!
Still not sure I'm going to swap out the cool wide base pistol grips though. Always thought the trad curved grips looked goofy on the Micro. LOL
Thank you, Dave. You are an incredible fountain of information.

I have two of the police imports that appeared to be reworked Micro Uzis, both had the warnings on the top....pic of one of them below.

Can someone translate "police import"? How does/did it enter the country and then how does it become transferrable, if ever?

Factory micro uzis that were converted to semi auto for European police is what I believe they were, then a handful were imported in the last few years to the states. Not FA, title 1

My "police" semi has a 304xxxxxx s/n, all the correct micro parts and came with a FA bolt. It's now a BG closed bolt host.
Love the gun!!!! It's my keeper. This one also has the top cover markings. The lower had the block reinstalled and the "A" was hit with an end mill. No doubt in my mind this was a factory Micro at one time.

Mines a safe queen. I fixed the lower where the “A” was milled out, removed the “pistol “ marking that they stamped in front of the factory “micro uzi” stamp for import, added a brand new factory ported barrel, and has been unfired since full refinish. I use a few other converted pistols for hosts to beat on

Maybe you might drag that queen out and post a pic or two? I'm sure I'm not the only one here who'd love to see your handiwork, and a rare gun to boot!

I’ll pull it out this week. I still can’t figure out how to shrink photo files so I’ll try to take one that’s a lower res so I can upload it

I've been using this for years. Easy drag and drop. It opens up a new folder called resize and puts the resized pic in there. You can select whatever resolution you want.

That’s for pc. I need something for iPhone. I do everything off my phone that’s the issue. Photos are way too high of a resolution

I guess it depends on what you're used to. When I see the flared UZI Pistol grips on a Micro with a folding stock, I throw up a little bit. I like the look of the factory Micro with the curved grips.

C'mon Dave? Don't be so polite. How do you REALLY feel about those pistol style grips? LOL

Of course, if I wanted to put the "right" ones on, where would I find an original IMI pair today? I'm not gonna put a used looking mil surp off color set on what now is essentially a brand new looking gun.

Any sources anyone? I can start a new thread but hate to if it's not as complicated as I'm making it.

Full disclosure: YEARS ago I posted a pic of my Micro long before the recent rework, and Dave commented on the "nice gun" but then said something like "get rid of those grips." Years ago and I still remember! LOL So I was kind of baiting him. But, I'm ready to swap them out if I can find a new original pair!

Use an app for iPhone called “Resize Image” it’s free. Select an image. Choose .3mp and upload it. It’s easy peasy!!

Here’s a pic of it with my railed top cover and I think this was without the NOS ported barrel. Will probably remark that lower again, hand stamped it before I had laser. Doesn’t look the best

No pic of the port side? Open/closed bolt? Nothing wrong with those markings I can see. Other than they're white.... 😝
I can see I'm gonna have to find a grip set for mine somewhere. 🙄
