Hello,

I have a Vector Arms Semi Mini UZI that is starting to develop a problem. I have owned the gun for a decade and put few thousand rounds through it. The top cover is a Vector reweld.

The Problem:

The trigger sometimes requires a second pull to release the striker. The top cover/bolt has a gap of .032+. (see pic for just how much I can squeeze the top cover down. I can't believe Vector Arms shipped with this much slop.

FWIW, the gun is clean and only doesn't release the sticker sometime, but tapping it inverted will induce the failure.

What are you your thoughts? Top cover the issue? Or sear issue?

Sear issue. The top cover being loose should allow the sear to release the striker more easily than it would if the cover were super tight.
Take the grip assembly off of the gun and study how the parts move with one another. You can take some material off of the selector piece that moves under the sear so that it will allow the sear to be pulled lower into the grip frame before snapping back up. Take a file or dremel to the selector part and take just a hair off each time then re assemble and try it. I know my terminology sucks in writing up this description but it is what it is. I have a registered sear which I move from a full size & mini SMG to a micro and I had to "fit" each one so that it would work good in semi-auto and not just full auto. The good thing is that if you mess up and take too much off a new safety selector piece is less than $20.00.

This is the piece I am talking about taking some material off of.

Advice taken and work performed. Seems to have solved the issue since I could not induce the issue again. (and if it happens again I will take another 0.001 off till I get it right). I ordered a new top cover to replace the rewelded top cover so I don't have an issue the other way.

Thanks for your recommendations. BTW, do we know if there are anyone filling the void of the late Richard Hoffman of BWE regarding quality UZI work?

Doing my best to fill that void. I provide all the services Richard did, and more, and manufacture a lot of the parts he was making as well. I have done work for a lot of his old clients. Andrew, AK Arms Belmont NH

You can use a punch and form the flat up on the cover to fill the gap if you want the cover to fit more tightly
