I was thinking of taking my mid-tour leave to russia so I can visit a few places, mainly the IMZ ural motorcycle plant to check out some bikes and stuff. Anyway, the thought crossed my mind to visit the izhmash arsenal and buy some stuff while I was there. I read about somebody else doing this, and was curious if anyone here has been there? I wonder what I would have to do to get a factory tour? Any thoughts?

I was there 4 years ago. The factory and museum are located in Izhevsk. At the time, we were only allowed to visit the museum. Very cool though. I have some photos on my Flickr photo page.

Can I see the pics? I'm fairly certain I'm gonna go in the spring, I'm not sure if I'm still going to go to the ural plant due to some recent events and the fact that I went with Triumph instead....maybe a ural in the future...Other than that I wanted to go to red square, the kremlin, and they have another war museum I wanted to check out. Thanks for the heads up!

Just a word to the wise.
I'd be real careful what you bring back. You can probably get out of Russia with the stuff, but if you bring back any scopes with Iradium or demilled military surplus the Green police will stop you when you get to the states.

I know guys get by with stuff all the time just ask around and see what people have gotten thru and what has been confiscated.

have fun dude!

I meant to include "the stockset halfway down the page" surly. I was going to ship the majority of my 'yard sale' finds home, the only optics I was looking for were 1Pn58 night viz scope, and I reaaaally want one of the WWII trench periscopes. Other than that just oddities...I think getting the parts to make my future SVD into an SVDS would be ultra awesome, and buying a krink or AK-105 parts kit equally as awesome:) I know theres a big shortage of triangular folding stocks around these parts as well and I may use that for leverage on a tiger or for my kraut mobile..

Sounds like a killer plan, and I hope you dont think I'm trying to rain on your parade but I think to bring back a demilled machine gun, it has to be importable. I'm pretty sure Russian Military surplus machine guns are not on the list and cannot be imported into the United States.

I could be way off mark here, so I'm going to my FFL reg. book to look it up, but I think this is why we dont see a lot of that stuff.
Just be cautious about what you phyically bring back with your luggage.

I'm sure you need to be either a current 07-FFL or active Military with appropriate disposition papers to legally import demilled Military surplus firearms into the United States. The regulations are as confusing as Greek is to me.

I have alway's wanted to import an original length Russian SVD barrel for my
Izsmach SVD Tiger, but found out I couldn't do this because of the Russian import ban.

I've tried to get around this by purchasing the barrel from a company in New Zealand that sells The Izsmach Tigers with the full length barrels, but the guys in New Zealand have not agreed to send me anything yet.

I'm an FFL/SOT 07-02 and I can import items for personal use on an accasional basis, but I have found there are places I cannot get weapons from.
I can get a Post sample Singapore Kinectics SAR-21 with no issues at all but to import a real Russian machine gun is impossible.

I know your talking about bringing back what technically is pieces of metal, but I think there are certain Country's (Russia) we can't legally do that.

There is a ruling in the FFL book about Military dispositions. I read it once in passing and It discussed active Military personnel bringing back title #1 "War Trophy's", pistols and rifles, but I think it said something about filling out some forms with the State Department and Military affairs something.

OFF SUBJECT:
Did you here about the Russian chick who was caught bringing back Night Vision equipment to Russia? It was recently in the News here. She was arrested for illegally exporting Military technology. I dont know what happened, but its enought to make me think about how much stuff I'd put in my luggage.

let me know what you find out. I'm interested to know if Military personnel can bring back stuff and if we can import any demilled Russian Military surplus firearms. (parts kits, barrels, etc..)

I forget the form name, but basically I had a bunch of crap to bring back last deployment. My troop commander simply checked to make sure I wasnt bringing back a complete MG and signed off on it. I made a few copies of the bringback papers and rubber-banded them around my demilled 'trophies' and had no problems going through customs. I assumed that the 1PN58 was considered old ass technology, and I know you can buy them on ebay and gunchoker from time to time, I just wanted to see if I could get one on the cheap and eliminate the middle man. I am going to mail what I can back to the states, and mail the rest back to myself for bringback at a later date. If I can get a few complete SVD barrels, and furniture, I'll trade you for your tiger :)

If the price is good, and if it's something that's allowed to bring back, I may be in for 2 triangle folding stocks for AK's (If you're taking preorders LOL).

I want one for my AK, and have thought about converting the other to use on my M10.

Or if anyone knows where they can be found stateside, I'm all ears.

Good luck finding them stateside, I've been looking for one for my saiga conversion for over a year now. DPH arms has a few reproduction ones with the hardware but I'm not sure the quality is there for $100. I'll take a list of requests with me (within reason) and work out pricing after I get back. I'm projecting this to take place in the april timeframe.

I can guarantee you, you will not be getting anything back Svd, ak 103 05 or 07 and any quad stack mags.let alone any russky parts kit' i have tried it for year's, like complete rifle's, demil's. barrel's and such from importers and everyplace in between. canada the netherlands.and directly including offer to buy 100 svds rifle's. Direct from the factory source over five years ago.they would allow one for r&d and then send back after three years.

and Justice Dept. won't approve any permits.
my good friends in town have been there many times and even know Mr. K. personally and have broken bread with him at his summer home, and with generals.

and all i got was his business card, a signed 8x10 and his book.>out of country.<and a signed Dragunov magazine from his grandson...... also the black quad stack is still in the hands of the "Soviet Special Forces"

{ one neat magazine}

I have no reason to guide you on any path..... of you will be able to buy all you can find. even shopkeepers want I.D. and want to know who they are dealing with...and no chance to have them ship to swissland.then ship to u.s.a. from there. not going to happen.and I am former military myself.

that is the reality of it.

I had a SVDSs{ PARA} new in box{ complete rig} already to buy in Switzerland.for $10,000.00 once they found out who and what place to be shipped. NO DEAL!
however i still have the nice brochure and pictures.

good luck in whatever you do. and I do mean good luck.
