Military Markings on Reisings

Certain characteristics differentiate the military from the commercial Reisings. I've just read Iannamico's "The Reising Story". My question: are all, some, or many of the military guns marked in some way? P.202 of the above book shows a "USMC PROPERTY" roll marking on the L rear receiver--was this common? P.202 shows a photo of a military Mod 55 with "P" proofed barrel and punch marked top forward receiver--again, is that standard; are all or most militaries so marked?

I understand the business of the # of fins, sling placement, takedown screw, stock reinforcement bolts, etc. My question is strictly about military proof marks, acceptance marks, or property markings.

Thanks,

John

Of the so-called "military" and "commercial" features, mine has some of each.
I think that's fairly common.
So, being able to flat state that one is either military or commercial would be difficult without documentation.
Pinning one down to being a USMC-used gun (assuming no "USMC Property" marking) would be harder yet.

Per Iannamico's works, all military issued weapons had the P proof mark, the punch mark right before it, and a letter stamped near the P mark. Not all were marked "USMC," though... from what I've seen, those markings are pretty rare.

Most documentation says that the Marine M50's were not marked or proofed in any special way.

My understanding was that the blued early guns (commercial, gaurds, police) were stamped so that you could read model/ mfg from the ejection port side while the later parked guns, which for the most part went to the military, were stamped in the opposite direction?

That's the difference between the 1st and 2nd versions. HRA never used the terms "commercial" or "military" when describing versions of the Reisings... many of the first military versions were blued; many of the later commercial versions were parked.
