Is it legal to change an uzi pistol into a rifle. I want to have a stock put on it and get a 16” or longer barrel to make it legal with the ATF. Also can the sling swivel be removed and the stock plate welded to the back of the receiver. I was going to use a machine shop in town but does anyone know of anyone who does uzi work like this? Thanks.

If it was originally assembled in a handgun configuration adding a stock converts it into a rifle. Bbl length then matters, over 16" regular rifle, under SBR. Yes you can weld the stock mount plate to it.

Under the SCOTUS Thompson Center decision the receiver reverts back to it's handgun configuration when the stock is removed and a short bbl can be installed without a stock. You can have both bbls, just never assemble it as an SBR. Or create the appearance of one by say storing the stock in the same case as the handgun on a range trip but leave the long bbl in the safe at home.

This situation is unique to handguns, a gun originally assembled as a rifle with a stock will always remain a rifle no matter what configuration it is in.

Thank you for this information. I wish I had originally bought it as a rifle. It is a vector arms mini uzi pistol that I bought in 2013. Mainly bought it cause I grew up in the 80’s and the uzi was in the movies and shows so nostalgic for me. Hope I can get the project completed.

Do you have a website? I don’t have Facebook or Instagram. I am not a social butterfly and usually a private person. If not I can see if my wife can send the message and get the pictures. She has Facebook and probably Instagram too. Thanks.

You NEED one, if you're serious about business in today's world. Word of mouth will only get you so far.
I have Instagram and Facebook where I get 98 percent of my work from. Right now I have a 60/70 day lead time and get calls almost every day. I just don’t see the added cost of a website until I have more parts to sell. I will at some point. Just not a priority at the moment. I also don’t accept credit cards for payment so I’d have to add that hassle as well

Funny thing.... I have neither.

Right now I have a 60/70 day lead time and get calls almost every day.
Sounds like "I'm so busy I really don't need any more work". I only suggested it because your posts seem to suggest you're looking for more work. I was just trying to be helpful.

I just don’t see the added cost of a website
I pay less than $20/month for my website. Built it for free.

I also don’t accept credit cards
Credit cards may be a bit more of a challenge because of anti gun policies by some processors.

All in all, this industry can always use another craftsman! Welcome!

Your reply comes off…. Not welcoming. Telling me I “need” a website, they are not a necessity this day and age with social media as free advertising platforms. Saying “funny thing I have neither” ok, but you're on here and I post on here, 100 million other people have social media.
I’m not saying “I’m really busy I don’t need more work” I was simply saying I have plenty of work without the added hassle of a website. I use free platforms of advertising, I don’t see a need for a website when I only have a handful or parts that I sell and 20 bucks is 20 bucks, it’s another monthly payment and another thing I have to keep updated and track of, at the moment I run 2 businesses without websites I just find it easier to use social media. I am very serious about my business's and word of mouth has got me very far. I appreciate the input, feel it could have been worded in a better way

To make the argument for social media, I just raided you're instagram and I have 3 projects I'd like to send all at once in like April. Also, I think you built an ak of mine awhile ago withe a 1913 adapted real trunion and zenitco sporter furnature.

Rifles need a >16" barrel and at least 26" OAL. Iirc, you may need longer than a 16" barrel on the mini to make 26"

The barrel length will depend on which state you live in. Most will measure with the stock extended. A mini with a 16" barrel will measure 32" overall and 22.5" with the stock folded.
YMMV

Guys forgive me - A full size UZI Pistol and 16 Inch Barrel with *Removable Wooden, or Steel Folding Stock* = LEGAL or NOT Legal?
OR - does the removable stock have to be modified to be *SCREWED INTO place, or otherwise fixed to the receiver?
Does this make sense? I understand the 16" Barrel being required for Rifle. Can the original Removable Wood/Composite Stock, or Folding stock be legally used, or co located? I know, this is tedious

If it was "born" a pistol, removing the stock converts it back into a handgun. Legal to have a quick detachable stock.

If it was "born" a rifle, removing the stock does not change it's legal status, it remains a rifle. AFT says since it can still fire with it removed and the OAL is now under 26" it becomes an SBR. Stock cannot be quick detachable and must use screws or other means to semi-permanently mount it to the receiver.

Strange, since simply folding the stock creates essentially the same configuration.

Why the same policy doesn't apply to the AR7 I don't know.
