I just copied this from another site, some of the stuff is in my other thread. I put this in a new thread because it's a comparison between the MPA and WLA builds. If the moderator thinks it should be in the other thread, I'm sorry and feel free to move it there.
After shooting my WLA built gun, my father fell in love with the sterling. It just so happened a local shop had 5 Type II guns on the shelf. I picked out the nicest one and purchased it for him as a xmas present. When I got it home I was showing my wife and noticed it was not a WLA built gun, but it was built by Masterpiece Arms. I was not really worried about it because I have 2 MPA "MAC" type pistols and they have been flawless.
Putting the 2 builds next to each other and compairing them here is what I see:
The MPA built gun has much cleaner welds on the ends of the tubes, not even visable, where as you can see them on the WLA gun.
Both builds are totally straight.
The MPA gun has a black phosphate type of finish, where as the WLA has a more correct "crinkle" finish.
The WLA gun is 7.5#s and the MPA gun is 9#s, due to the full length shroud and a much heavier barrel profile. Both with no mags.
I can SBR the WLA gun, but the MPA gun not so much.
I did not want to give my father a gun with problems, so I took it to the range today check function and sight it in for him so it's good to go when he gets it, especially since it's one of the first ones, it has a single digit serial #. Here is what I noticed from shooting it:
100 or so rounds and it was 100%. WWB, Speer lawman blue box, and handloads used.
The MPA gun has a little less felt recoil, due to wieght. The extra 1.5#'s did not really hurt the feel of the gun though.
It shot way low and the sight is pretty much bottomed out to get it in, just like the WLA gun was.
It is very accurite, just like the WLA gun, mabey a tiny bit better due to the heavier barrel profile. Both guns will shoot out a 2" bullseye with 1 mag.
My WLA gun never liked speer lawman bluebox (light primer strikes), the MPA gun ate it up. This may be a moot point though, because the WLA gun was not broken in the last time I used the speer in it, I just gave up.
All in all, I think the MPA built gun is 100%. Here are the pics. The pictures of the welds were on macro, but still suck.
