My thoughts on my Vulcan V10-45

I have read the many posts on here and elsewhere as to the questionable quality of the Vulcan Mac10 pistols. After scouring the local shop, I walked out a proud owner of a really cool paper weight (many have lead me to believe). At just over $300 I could not pass up something that looked so cool.

Another short drive to Wally World to get my favorite cheap steel ammo (TULAMMO 230gr.) and I’m headed home. The whole time I’m loading the magazine (which looks like it was salvaged from the Titanic) I’m thinking I hope this thing works!

Walked out to my backstop, pulled the trigger and POP! What is this? It works! So I keep pulling the trigger until CLICK? A jam? Nope she’s empty! It ate 50 rounds of that Russian junk in no time at all. I did have 3 jams (un-ejected spent rounds) out of a 50 round box. The gun is a jewel on the inside, not a virgin but close to it. Can I live with 3 out of 50 on a fun range toy? You bet!

I compared the welds, fit and finish to my Uzi and they were just as good. Got out the digital calipers and started checking parallel and square of the stamped lower and upper. The measurements on the Vulcan were better than the UZI (0.008’’ vs. 0.015’’). The parts all fit very well with no slop anywhere other than the magazine.

Is it a Kimber? Nope, but at just north of $300 I think it’s a good value. I like to buy guns that look cool and retain some collector value. Throw in another 90’s style assault weapons ban and this guns return on investment will be very good.

The good:Low cost
Hard hitting 45ACP (a lot of them)
Wow factor
Relatively accurate
Very smooth, light and clean breaking trigger
Cheap and easy to find parts

The Bad:Heavy
Not super dependable
Trigger guard is sharp and agitates the middle finger
Cost of ammo
Lack of threads on my barrel /how hard is it to change the barrel?

My gun has a serial number of F53xx and I don’t know how that relates to dates of manufacture.

If you are a troll or drive by hit man, keep on moving to the next thread. If you have had a positive (first hand) experience with the Vulcan V10 please share. Who knows I might be the first :)

Bert

most people who actually own them are happy from what I have read across the net. As far as the jamming goes...vulcan/velociti arms semi auto macs are known to have the barrels pakerized both inside and out. A little polising on the chamber and its good to go. I think they recommend steel cased ammo. Many people say the masterpeace arms guns are better but I have not seen a whole lot of difference to be honest. Masterpiece guns do have a few differences which help them hold up slihgtly better IMO. I think the parkerized finish on the vulcan/velocity guns are a little better though.

I guess in all its a toss up but I wouldnt have a problem owning a vulcan mac.

BTW keepshooting.com has new manufactured magazines for those at $25 each.

Learn to bump fire that puppy.

Looking forward to it! FTF industries has some nice looking fake can’s which might help. At this point I think it would be a lot easier to buy an upper with barrel installed for $90 then try and remove the current barrel. This new upper comes pre-polished and chamber is honed. I also saw something somewhere (maybe here) about installing a set screw on the back of the trigger to limit over travel to facilitate bump fire. I have heard some stories about these firing out of battery during bumpin. After looking at the hammer geometry and how it contacts the firing pin I really don’t see how it can happen too far out of chamber (hammer hits bolt first).

How’s trigger slap? I personally don’t notice it and that might be attributed to the trigger guard trying to cut into my middle finger. I must say the trigger is wide and comfortable say compared to my PPS or WASR10. I shoot a WASR10 quite a bit and it has the worst trigger slap of any gun in my collection. So I would say overall it’s a non issue.

My front take down pin comes out too easy. It is a long pin with what’s supposed to be a spring loaded ball bearing that’s not working too great. I see that some pins have a screw that screws into the pin similar to a HK lower. Which one is better?

That barrel actually has wrench side cuts into it at the end for removal. Put the lower part of the trunion (the chin) into a vise while the receiver sits over the vise and turn out the barrel with a wrench. Don't forget to tap out the tension pin and spray lots of lube around the barrel on both sides.
It would make more sense to compare it an MPA gun for price and similarity than comparing it an UZI. Even the UZI which is probably in 9mm is typically more expensive even for the semi auto version. The UZI guys think they are in a class all their own even in the SMG world.

Thanks for the info on removing the barrel. I have examined my barrel and it has no flat milled areas for a wrench removal? As for the welds it would make sense to compare it to a MPA gun as I am guilty of doing the apples and oranges thing here. My UZI was the only thing I could personally reference and the UZI seems to be the benchmark in which things are compared to around here. Anyone have a MPA gun that they could post some detailed pictures of the welds?

Here is a "SAFE" way to bump that gun.

Rest the rear of the gun on your chest.
Grab the front of the gun from the trigger guard forward around the lower and upper.
Place trigger finger on the trigger and slowly pull the gun forward from your chest.
Don't move your trigger finger let the forward "pull" engage it.

It will bounce between your chest and trigger finger and empty as fast a a FA.

Kinda fun as the 1st case is still in the air when the last one is ejected.

Had a semi cobray back in the '90's before I bought a transferable M/10

Here is an up-date on my Vulcan buddy project! I have received my new threaded barrel upper and fake can. I installed a small Weaver rail PN#48061 to the top of the receiver. The red dot sight is a Bushnell TRS-25 ultra compact. I love the TRS-25 as it has a continuous on battery life of over 3,000 hours and is fully water submersible to 10ft. I can take the gun apart without having to remove the red dot sight. The fake can is very well made and came from FTF Industries. Both FTF and Velocity arms shipped my items shortly after placing the orders and both came in USPS Priority mail.

The gun bump fires like a dream! It is so easy and controllable I think I might also get a M11 in 9mm ;) The new Velocity upper ran 50 rounds of Tulammo with only 1 jam so I think it is an improvement with the polished chamber.

My last phase of this project is to laser etch a Zombie type theme on the upper and fake can. I was thinking about some random sized biohazard symbols and skulls on the upper and something on the fake can. If you have some ideas or cool black and white pictures that fit this theme please post them as I am open to suggestions.

Thanks Guys,
Bert
