I finally got the 1919s home.

I inspected all of them and found only one problem.

One of them has a top cover catch that absolutely will not go over the cover.

I have made sure that the feed pawl is in the correct position, and that the cover is flush with the receiver. The problem is, the catch no matter what I do will not engage so that it goes foward and holds down the cover like it should.

The other two are fine, albiet the top cover catch springs are so tight, it takes both hands several tries to get it to retract to get the cover to release to flip upward. Maybe this is good, as I dont want the cover to pop open while shooting.

Should I grind down the catch for more clearance or is there an easier way?

You should try 1919a4.com
They are the undisputed experts when it comes to all things 1919
BTW, they will probably tell you to invest in a large rubber mallet!

Much appreciated!

I tried palming the cover very hard several times. It seems to be flush with the receiver. I think the catch is off and needs ground down a hair.

Todd at Rapid Fire said they will gladly fix it, but I am debating on whether to just have a local gunsmith do it, or brave it myself.

It seems easy to fix, yet, I hate taking a file to such a cool looking gun, lol.

Maybe it is an M-37 latch. I believe that the topcover on them is thinner. It's been a while since I saw the two side by side.

I once got a couple of M-37 belt stop pawls by mistake in a parts kit from SARCO. They looked the same but were smaller.

RoverDave has my 1919 now...
