After doing my research and finding a specimen that I thought was nice, I finally acquired my first Galil:

Model is 392, action arms import with all the bells and whistles (wood, bipod, night sights, bottle opener, etc). I have a few questions that I thought you fine gentlemen might know the answers to.

What is the barrel's twist rate?
Is this a factory original Galil sling or aftermarket?
How would I go about getting the night sights glowing again?
Why does the mag release on both the Galils and the Valmets have a large steel guard behind it?
What kind of accuracy should I expect with the right ammo?

Thank you in advance.

Very nice, you won't be disappointed, simply the best!!!! Had mine since 1990. You have the original IMI "commercial" factory sling with the metal sling loops. FYI, They will wear/scratch the finish a bit if not careful. Have the IDF 80's tan military and current IDF sling and use para cord loops instead. They also came with a small green plastic box with cleaning kit from the factory. You can get the replacement night sites on gunbroker. The barrel is a 1/12 twist rate for the 55gr. M193 round and should be marked on the barrel, can't remember exactly where, it's been a while since I looked. Might be under the hand guard or gas tube. The play/movement in the carry handle/bipod leg rear bracket is normal. Accurate, VERY. The brass will be ejected forward and on a 45 degree. The casing neck will be pretty dented and crimped, that is normal. May want to oil the teak wood fore arm occasionally. Make sure you use the real teak oil and not the "teak oil finish". Congrats on the great purchase!!!

Nice rifle. AA imported those between 87 thru 89. There will be a date code on your barrel. Your serial will either start with a 207, 208 or 209 prefix. The barrel twist rate will not be marked on it (other time periods models had them); but it is 1 in 12.

24HR tactical has the nights sights along with Armadillo on this site. Armadillo also supplies all of the replacement parts for them as well
