Hey guys, I am new to the forum so I would like to say hey and introduce myself.

I have a Golani Sporter serial GAL 00570 and I bought a new "original Galil" stock online. It came in four pieces, the spring/pin, circular shim looking thing, the knuckle, and the stock.

Question 1. How the heck do you assemble the pieces to the stock?

Question 2. The gun fires flawlessly, no feed problems, but do I have to worry about the rumors of the receiver being soft with this serial range?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much-I appreciate it!

The funny thing is, this stock is exactly the same thing that is on my Golani. And my Golani stock is tight and has no problems. I thought the one I got would be more sturdy. I think i will just sell this thing before I put it in a vise and screw it up. I shoot guns-I don't work on them.

Thanks anyway for the advice.

Tenfootgrass, I am trying to understand what you are trying to put together? Are you just trying to connect the receiver knuckle to the stock side knuckle (are your stock tubes already assembled)? or are you trying to assemble the pieces of a aluminum stock to the stock knuckle? Can you post some pictures of the stock assembly in question?

To answer your first question about soft receivers you can have your receiver tested for it's Rockwell hardness. Jeff Miller can test it or if you have your local smith they can test it. Century Arms International might fix this issue for you under warranty. They might not tell you or admit to any issues, however they will ask for your serial number and if it has not been repaired they will most likely issue you a return authorization number for your rifle. CIA knows pretty well if you have a soft receiver issue. If you do send it to Jeff Miller for testing he will be up front and tell you that he will demill/cut up your Golani receiver if it does not come up with the right hardness. But as much as I hate to hear the words cut up receiver, Jeff runs into liability issues if that receiver ends up exploding in somebodies face down the road. I own a Golani myself and it has starting to bulge in one spot and it has been to Century Arms for repairs for other issues. I have decided to cut my losses and buy a new receiver and have Jeff build a new rifle from my old Golani (the rest of the parts are all IMI Galil). Welcome to the forum! Lou

I think I figured it out. It looks pretty straight forward, but as I went to install the c-clamp, It Broke! Does anyone know how to get a new one?
I have to hit the rack but it would be nice to wake up to a solution. I am having a rough week.

Cheers,

Patrick

PAtrick, same thing happened to me when I tried to assemble my stock back together for the first time. I think you can get the c-clamps at Fastenal (make sure you say e-clip because it has that little piece in the middle of the clamp makes it look more like an "E") Luckily the e-clip won't set your wallet back too much. Hope your week gets better. Lou

Thanks for the help buddy I appreciate it. They are going in through my femoral artery to check my heart flow and look for blockages, so that's the reason for whining about a tough week. Not to mention I just quit my job last week because I hated it so much, then this thing came up. I still dont have an offer letter for my new job. Back to my heart...I have taken all kinds of medicine in the past for my arthritis and I think it caused a heart issues. I have to have a heart cath done tomorrow. sucks.

It all started when on a bright sunny day in March of 1992. We got a report that while on routine patrol, the Coast Guard Helo spotted two Mexican go-fast ponga boast. They travel at 55 MPH which is fast on the water. We chased them for thirty minutes and they rammed us a few times so we got fed up. We pulled alongside after a while of maneuvering, for a while at high speeds, and I jumped into their boat going 52 MPH to stop them. check my family gallery for pics. (http://www.pbase.com/stephaniekennedy/hurt_knee Helo had a camera guy on board. I was the big guy in the Blue jacket that jumped over. I pulled the fuel line to stop the bastards. I tore up my knee in the process. I had knee surgery that would fix me, but then I developed a weird bug in the process. This bug caused a rare form of reactive Rhematoid-like arthritis. Fast forward to just a year and a half ago I had four knee surgery's in 6 months. I had a left knee replacement, then tore the patella tendon right off the bone on that left knee. Then I had to have the doc operate again because that wound wouldn't heal because of the way they sewed it up. Then I had my right knee replaced and that one went perfectly. My left knee developed a Staph infection therefore I have to take antibiotics going forward unless they cut it off. So now my heart is screwed up so i am going to get that looked at tomorrow. So my broken e ring is not a big priority right now, but its keeping my mind off this surgery. Anyway, thanks for your help and hopefully that's not too much info I just dumped on everyone.

thanks

Tenfootgrass, if you decide to sell either your old one or the new one please PM me and let me know what you are asking, my stock is a slight bit warn and looks like it’s been drug behind a truck.

Well that will do it it you crazy animal, jumping from a perfectly fine American boat at 52 miles into a Mexican boat full of coodies! I know how you feel I'm 44 years old and my warranties are running out too. Its amazing how those crazy stunts you did when you where young that you thought you got away with it finally catch up to one. Hope all goes well and hang in there! thanks for serving our country by keeping our coasts safe. Lou

quick and dirty-

needle nose pliers
bench mounted vise
straight punch slightly smaller than knuckle pin.

mount punch in the vise straight up and down.
assemble stk knuckle halves and insert pin and spring.
place e clip and pliers where you can reach them.
position pin over punch and press down slowly using both ahnds ( watch the knucles 'cause if you slip you'll smash 'em) you may need to tap w/ a soft face hammer on a new setup.
once you compress the spring until the pin head sticks out about 1/4" hold pressure with one hand and slip the e clip into the groove w/ the other.
use pliers to seat the clip.

takes longer to say than to do.
