Just took possession of my Vector Uzi, and I have a couple of questions. First is about the lower end:

I have a GG lower that I purchased from Chris Humphrey. The one thing I hate about it (not it personally), is the retaining pin. I'd like an easier way to remove the lower end, to switch between calibers. Is there any other option out there? Something simpler, that doesn't require beating on it with a pin punch?

Second: Grip safety.

I'm having a problem with the grip safety button pinching the web of my hand. Is this a common problem, and is there any way to fix it? Maybe use a weaker spring on the grip safety, so you don't have to bear down on it so hard?

thanks for any advice, and I see myself spending TONS of money on ammo for this thing. :D

You can use about anything you like to replace that pin. I've seen a few sexed bolt setups for use with holsters. I'd just try shopping the harware area at the biggest hardware store in your area. Try to find one that can be blued. It will need to have an OD of ~9mm. Just remember, if you do that, you may not have tools at the ready the day it needs to be pulled off at a shooting session. As for the safety pinching the hand, I've heard a few complain of that here and there, but never had it happen to me. :welcome to the brood :biggrin2 Karl.

I've heard of guys cutting a coil or two on the grip saftey spring. I'd use a spare spring to test it out.

I don't like to try & disable safeties...

tape them closed or reduce spring tension. Just accept the fact that you must firmly jam the web of your hand into the grip safety to assure proper function.

Here's what I ended up doing:

I went to Home Depot, and got a 5/16"x2" clevis pin ($1.35), and a 5/16" hitch pin clip ($0.33). The clevis pin has a bunch of holes drilled in it, at different places. The last one lined up right, and even though the pin still slides back and forth, it can't come out, so it looks like it'll do okay.

Right side:

And a full pic of the sucker!

Edit! I got some 5/16" bolts, and wingnuts as well. but I figured that would be too much of a pain in the butt, and this is quicker anyway.

Now I just need to park the pin and clip to match. Anyone know how to remove the zinc coating on the parts? I've heard that dropping it into muratic acid will do it. Parking shouldn't be a problem (this part is inconspicuous enough to have a "kitchen sink" park job). Thanks for the suggestions, and especially for the welcome! I hope to shoot this soon!

Looks like that will work good. As for what will strip the finish, maybe Pa. Patriot can help with that, I'll PM him. Karl.

Hmm. I didn't think about that. I could use one of the keeper rings (the ones that look like a keyring), and that may scratch less. But I'm not sure if that's going to be a problem or not. Maybe I'll run back to the Home Depot tomorrow and get one of them....

A thin nylon washer would keep that pin off the finish.

I think as easy as someone can make something like this, it would have to be fairly cheap. Karl.

I think when people see an item as simple as this, it encourages a certain number of people to make their own. Sometimes it is less expensive to buy someones product than to make it yourself.

If your idea is an H&K-style pin, we're thinking alike and I'd buy a few for a reasonable price.
