I tend to agree that an AK in that condition will probably function with no maintenance. But if true, that they would be issued in that condition to newbies tells us something about Russian logistics and rear echelon capabilities.

Doesn’t really matter. Putsky’s probably gonna throw a small tact nuke in there anyhow,why give’m the good stuff?

A lot of that looks like mud, not rust. But as others have said, its an AK, it'll shoot just fine.
