Galil In Action With Estonian Troops In Baghdad I

Estonia's contribution to the war in Iraq has been a contingent of forty light infantry soldiers. Armed with the IMI Galil SAR "Glilon" and Negev LMG they are responsible for the Abu Ghraib district in western Baghdad. Below please find some photos of this unit interacting with the local populace. Photos provided by jetskrtal.

Four Galil posters were offered by Action Arms. The one below is for the 7.62mm FA the other were 7.62mm SA, 5.56mm FA, & 5.56mm SA. Not sure if there were any AR ones? jetskrtal turned me on to this poster available fome Numrich for under $4.00.

Galil NEW Barrel from Green Mt. threading
13mm x 1.0 RH on the "new" barrel sent with all the Galil kits and original hider, No possible way of being confused with 1/2"-20 or 1/2"-28 as gauged.
From the tip of the barrel to the end of the cut it's 16.5mm long, with 13.65mm of that being threaded.

Receiver end threads on a .223 are 21mm x 1.5 RH

Here are two different Galil tools. The bottom one came with my transitional MR/AA M372.

Here are a few more.

Top to bottom: Wood non folding stock, late style plastic covered, & old style aluminum stock.

R4 buffer, fits in end of stock knuckle.

Buffer installed. The bolt carrier only impacts on the upper 1/3 of the buffer. when it is worn, it can be removed & rotated 180degrees & reinstalled.

Left:Galil front sight, Right: R4 front sight.

Early(left) & quick release(right) bipod mounts.

Replacement Galil ejector?

Replacement ejector shown sitting on receiver rail. It is a perfect match to the original. Quality is excellent, appears to be a factory piece. It looks like the damaged ejector & part of the rail would be machined away, replacement located, holes drilled & rivets installed. I got this on Ebay a few years ago .It was listed as an "Uzi" ejector.Anyone have any info on these?

2many,

Awesome photos. Awesome. Great skills and great photos. That ejector is something else. Amazing replacement part. I never thought about it before, but that ejector does not look like the ejector on the ORF reciever? Were there two versions of the ejector? Don't think so. Any info? I have to look at Black Ten's ejector.

There were actually three versions of the bipod. There was another early version that was assembled with screws. I will try to post photos later.

Sayeret Shaldag, thank you for the comments. My photo studio consists of my digital camera, a mini tripod I got from the Goodwill store, a lamp & a few pieces of white cardboard.I may have to add another lamp to get rid of some shadows.Plus I am always careful to crop out the toes,no one wants to see that.:)

The pic of the ejector is from my AA M372( early transitional model w/ARM gas block , but AR furniture & no bipod. This is the one that had the Magnum Research info milled out & the AA info restamped in its place.). I had a late model IMI "GALIL SPORTER" receiver & it was the exact same shape. The "replacement" ejector is truly a dead ringer in shape & size to the ejector in the receiver.I have never seen or heard anything about replacement ejectors before. Maybe someone might see this & shed some light? By the quality of this it appears to be factory made, either IMI or possibly South African. If anyone has an armorers manual it might contain info.

I have a few more parts to show comparison pics of, I might be able to post them in a week or two.

I can't wait for more photos. Excellent. I will buy a tripod soon. What concerns me a bit is that the ORF ejector is not shaped like a factory IMI one. Here is the photo of the ejector on BlackTen's MR 5.56mm ARM. It is exactly like the one posted above. Notice the early single catch trigger and inverted safety assembly.

Two full size recoil assemblies. The older was is slightly shorter overall, & the tang that retains the top cover is slightly shorter.

Pistol grip lugs. The one on the right is mostly seen on semi autos. It has the boss for the pivot pin that allows the safety to operate forward for fire, rear for safe.
