I enjoyed the match quite a bit. Stages were fairly straightforward but had some challenging points. The weather forecast had been decent for Friday and rain on Saturday. We ended up getting wet Friday afternoon but Saturday was all right.
Stage 1 started with a row of full-size steel, with one red no-shoot in there. These had to be engaged in one continuous sweep, while avoiding the penalty target. The next position had a Texas star. 3rd position was four mini-poppers at 20 yards that had to be shot from hip. This proved more challenging than some people were expecting. The last position had a series of round plates with a no-shoot in the middle.
The gotcha on this stage was the common target that had to be engaged before leaving each of the four shooting positions. It was easy to forget about this one, and more than a few shooters earned penalties for forgetting this one.
Stage 2 had the shooter zigzag between barrels engaging some silhouettes, a plate rack, a dueling tree, and some more plates. Before leaving each position, the shooter had to take one plate off a star, finishing with the final plate on the star.
Stage 3 started with a double star. The next position had a row of poppers and a swinging plate. The last position had the shooter engage a row of 12 plates from between gaps in barrels. The stop plate was a 5-inch target inside of a no-shoot. I ran out of ammo on this last shot on my Unlimited run. In hindsight, I’d have been time ahead at that point to take the miss penalty vs. my very slow reload. Oh well.
Stage 4 had a series of colored plate racks and a popper array. After each array, the shooter engaged the corresponding color target up on the hill. These were occasionally forgotten as well.
I liked the 2-day format, allowing a total of 4 classes to be shot.
