I went back and looked at an email I had received from CNC Warrior in early October. He said a friend was loaning him an IMI receiver and it would be as close to it as humanly possible, IF he decides to do it. Early 2011 was when he was hoping for. We need to keep the emails coming.

Here is a crazy idea, he could mill the receivers to accept AR-15 barrels! You would just have work the gas exchange port on the barrel. Any thoughts on that good or bad?

With non-existent parts and $100 magazines,a 308 receiver would at best be a limited run of a handful of units.Even then,I don't see how they could be profitable for the manufacturer.

The original magazines for the .308 Galil were modified M14 magazines with AK style front and rear lugs. A good machinist should have no problem making these lugs and then converting the M14 magazines.

As for .308 Galil bolts, there are still sources out there for them. I guess CNC Warrior or another machine shop could possibly reverse engineer a Galil .308 bolt and manufacture them.

I wish I had my .223 and .308 Galils handy to compare the dimensions but I don't know if the dimensions are different enough to where you can just use the .223 Galil receiver and just mill it out for the different magazine length.

Either way, I'll e-mail CNC Warrior and see if they would be interested in making the .308 Galil modified M14 magazine lugs or even complete modified magazines. I have a Galil .308 modified M14 magazine they could use as an example plus I can also supply them a .308 Galil bolt if they need one to reverse engineer but it will have to wait until I return to the US for R&R next year from Iraq.

I sure would like an IMI-spec 5.56 receiver. Even if I manage to destroy my CAI-built ORF receiver in a year (easy enough task), Century might just send me another badly-heat-treated gun.

Could the CAI rifle be disassembled and the receiver be swapped out for the new one?

Most of the parts kit that Century uses is from IMI, so I don't see why not?

I could be fatally wrong, though.

Tengalil (sp) would be the final word, but I see no reason why those that ended up with a POS receiver could not swap everything straight to the new receiver.

If you DO go this route, however, you open up what I call the "as long as . . ." disease. This means "as long as" I am doing all that, why not get e new barrel? Why not get a better x, y, and z?

If you have the $$ for this, great, just go ahead and build up a whole new rifle. If not, BEWARE! This can be an unexpectedly expensive "simple" project.

I know of what I speak. :chairhit

Most likely the barrel will not time and headspace with the new receiver. I have heard of people using shims to allow this.

Keep in mind; these receivers will probably go for at least 500.00 plus.

I can assure you that the 200.00-290.00 ORF price will not be there; especially when you factor in reality of only making so many and other factors.

But if they are that much better like everyone says; then they are worth it.

jesus, seems intensly pricey. so what would that price an IMI stripped receiver in the white at?

CNC warrior's most expensive AK receiver is their threaded, milled AK receiver at $360. Since a galil receiver is similar to a threaded, milled AK receiver I'd say it would be some where close to there.

Only time will tell though.

Yeah, in my opinion a $350 or so price tag may be about fair/right.

Ok, so let's say $360 for the receiver, and $290 for a kit from Apex. How much does it typically cost for assembling?
