My cousin lives in a certain central american country thats military currently uses the FNC. He said he has good conections with people in military over there. He is trying to get a suitcase full of parts for me{US] put together .My mother is visiting with them now. Does anyone know if it is legal for a U S citezen to bring back parts from out of the country.I AM NOT BRINGING IN BARRELS OR RECEIVERS. Can anyone give me a quote on the laws regarding bringing in spare parts for personal use. I told him to get at least 8 of the bigger parts and more of smaller parts.I dont need more than one set of spares so ......... any info would be appreciated I dont want my mom being arrested in customs. She will kick my ass

Importation of Gun Parts

I know the law does not allow the importation of barrels, recievers or frames. I have never heard of a ban on any other parts though. Just to be sure you may want to contact someone directly from ATF. I wouldn't take any chances with all the anti-gun advocates out there right now.

Even if you find it is legal to bring the parts in I wouldn't make your mommy the mule, ship them back UPS or whoever is an international shipper there.

I get parts from all over; including some FNC's. Do the shipping method. I wouldn't even go the airline route.

Don't put you Mom in that position. You only get one of those - now if it was your girlfriend, then go for it.

Please put me at the top of your list cause I'm Special. :)

Saw this link in a thread at Subguns. If your cousin can get enouph parts kits together it might be worth it to go through HBRC.

I looked into it a while back and called my local ATF branch about it. The agent said that I needed a determination letter that states it wasn't a firearm or had no restrictions on import, in short a long and painful process with lots of unknowns.

I know that people ship parts from other parts of Europe into US and I also know that even AK furniture or mags were stopped at some other times. This makes little sense unless you figure that the fate of the shipment depends on a clueless border agent.

Other countries have different standards on demill procedures. In Russia for example, you can buy a demilled kit with completely intact full auto receiver where barrel is plugged and trunnion is chopped. Completely legit there, but not here.

Anything involving a Federal Bureaucracy seems to translate into a long and painful process.

I've never tried to import anything and don't know what is involved. The impression I have is that the importer will take care of the paperwork and has a network of connections to make it happen. Again, I have no experience and this is just speculation except for the part of bureaucracy making business difficult.

Another possible option is Vulcan Imports. If he is still involved with importing. Fingers crossed, he is. :D
