Vector offers two versions...

of their *powdercoat*.... a semi-gloss & a matte black (similar to IMI's paint over park).

These finishes are outsourced.

I opted for the semi-gloss on my Vector Full-size smg. These coatings are an exterior finish... only! Being paint... care must be exercised to prevent damage from certain solvents. I find that EEZOX & white lithium grease work extremely well w/o harm. Most MINIs have this finish in order to cover the discoloration caused by welding receiver sections. Even though these finishes are primarily cosmetic... they do offer additional protection for the parkerization & the weapon is easily wiped down.

I use the moly resin coating for most of my products I make here in my shop. I have used Dura coat and need a bit more practice with it before I offer it to my customers. I have a good friend that is now doing powder coating and I like the looks of it. I am going to have one of my Sterlings done in the krinkle finish powder coat. I will post a pic and how it is holding up as soon as I can get the finish applied. All of the three finish's that I have mentioned look great, I prefer the moly resin because I know that it looks good and holds up to solvents.

As Tony, my favorite is resin finishes. Currently I offer GunKote.
It is the best *metal* finish I have ever used.
Thin (can be applied to internals), self lubricating, durable, impervious to solvents and looks great. Oh, it also aids dissipation of heat. Properly applied it will never chip/flake. It wears like park on steriods.

Duracoat is an epoxy based coating, thicker, but more flexible. Best for synthetics, wood, and parts that can't be heat cured as the GunKote resin requires (like scopes)

(IMO) Powdercoat is not an appropriate firearm finish. It is a strong paint, but like any other *paint* it bonds stronger to *itself* than the substrate. Thus it will always eventually chip/flake. AND it is not immune to all solvents. It is also too thick to apply but to only the outside surfaces.
