I’m looking at a M11A1 and the previous owner cut the rear sight off (triangle portion). Would it be an easy fix to replace the rear sight? I’m guessing remove the old one and weld on a new plate. Can it be fixed up without telling it was replaced?

Thanks!

Pretty sure Sam can make that good as new, like it never happened.

Did they say what their logic was behind that?

Or just put a side cocker on it, and mount sights and/or red dot to the top of it. I’ve got one I machined the rail, so the rear of the rail goes over the top of the rear of the receiver. Pm me, and the can send you some pics that will make more sense...

Get a discount. If he did it you’re talking to a dumbass (well beyond drilling a hole); if he bought it that way he should’ve gotten the dumbass discount that can be passed to you.

don't think i've ever actually used the oem sights on the stock upper. all mine are after market
with red dots. if it's good deal buy it. as rybread said, if it really bugs you practical solutions
can fix it.

Dumb question. Do any of the uppers like Lage or Tenko use the rear sight plate as a brace point or anything? The seller said he would weld on a new rear sight plate and refinish the gun. He’s a dealer and from looking at his work he should be able to easily weld it on and make it look like a new gun.

It’s a decent deal on it so that’s why I’m thinking about the purchase.

Perfectly functional unless you plan on using one of the shittiest and unusable stock sights ever.

This guy gets it. I'd consider giving him a bonus for cutting it off.

+1000

Especially now with the CF bolt, makes total sense. Add some hk sights and rock and roll. I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. Maybe someday I’ll get around to it.

My factory sights were 2’ off at 15yards

Worthless

But they should still be there.

Macs are about function I know but it’s still a $7500 collector gun / rich mans toy

I’d want a $1,000 off. Don’t assume after fixing it it won’t show to some degree

Plus the gunsmith costs and giving the gun to the smith for 6 months —$1000 to me

As sights, they are pretty crappy and no real loss unless you really want to experience a stock upper, which you will soon get over. However, they do block off an opening at the rear of some Lage uppers. I have no experience with the newer uppers he offers but with the original Max-11 that was the case and I suspect it still is. I would honestly pass. If you do buy, a $1k discount is completely reasonable and I would not want him welding on the gun. Run it without the sight or pass IMHO.

The Tenko does not touch the rear sight plate. Nor do we plan to use or bear on the rear sight plate.

I agree they should still be there, but did you know they're somewhat adjustable? See https://www.mac-11.info/trouble.htm#5

i think mine shot low...id have to bend the back sight in 1/2 to shoot on target...i literally had to stand 5' from the target to find it on the paper at the bottom it shoots so low

GG is the only way to go..throw out that factory upper

use a handgun red dot...trijicon mro

Wow, I was thinking of cutting my rear sight off in favor of a red dot.
