Today I received my Burris Fastfire III with an 8 moa dot. I put it on my MAX 10 MK 1 upper and tried it in different locations on the rail. Those of you who have put a dot sight on a MAX upper; where did you finally prefer it on the rail? I am glad I got the 8 moa dot as it is big enough but not too big.

The farther back you put it closer to your eyes the larger your field of vision and the more invisible the lens frame becomes . As far back as you can put it.

^ Yep, go for the larger field of view which gives you faster target acquisition.
Dot size is personal preference, but I like 6-8 MOA on subguns and 2-4 on rifles.

If you are going to co-witness the iron sights with the dot, then further back is best. I prefer mine midway or slightly more forward. This allowes increased ability to track your targets without needing to bring them into the optic's objective. Also 8 MOA seems harsh unless your shooting large targets at close range.

No co-witness. I have the full length rail with no other sights right now.

Try moving it midway, the extra relief will help with the 8 MOA when acquiring targets.
