I tried my hand at converting my Reising to take uzi mags… what am I missing? The feed angle is all wrong and it looks like the receiver needs opened up for the mag to fit. Does anyone around here have a working conversion so I can copy your homework?

Hi Starvingboy,

IIRC, uzi 45 mags were used with a plastic sleeve. Machinegunboards.com has some information about the conversion.

Enjoy,

Any chance you’re going to be at the Michigan subgun match this weekend?

I could bring a couple for you to check out.

No, I’m not going to make it to the Michigan match, but I may know you from the Ohio subgun match.

My brother and I were eyeballing the magazines, looking to brew up our own conversion… and it appeared to us that it would not work. The feed angle is all wrong.

It it only a plastic sleeve? No other modification required?

Both Reising and Uzi mags feed in at 90 degrees to the bore.

And yes, it’s just a plastic sleeve on the Uzi mag. One of the members on machinegunboards ended up printing them. I don’t have it handy, but one of the other Reising threads here had a link to the thread on that board.

Here are a couple pictures of the extremely high-tech prototype I made.

And some videos. First of the prototype, then with the sleeve.

I have working sleeves. Never seen those before.

I'm pushing to the next step.

Do the Uzi Pro Mag .45 mags work any better in the Reising than they do in the Uzi? I have often read the 22rd mags need to be downloaded to be reliable.

You know, I'm not sure. I had the grease gun mag setup for the Uzi before I started playing with the Promags in the Reising. And to be honest, last time I tried IMI mags in the Uzi .45 setup, they choked. I may have to go play around with the Promags in the Uzi and see how they do.

Seems like the handful of times I tried them they did fine. But it’s been a while.

OTOH, the ProMags seem to do fine in my Reising. But then Reisings can be finicky, and what works for one may not work for another.

I've only tried IMI mags and with my adapter 100% success.

Hey, that looks really good. I saw a similar one that a friend was cobbling together, but that looks sharp!

I’ll probably have to get one. Not that I need one. I have a dozen or so Christie mags, and I have some of the sleeves for the Promags as well.

But this opens some other possibilities.

Advantages to this magwell are that it should be able to use any Uzi .45 mag (the sleeves don’t work on IMI mags, as the dimensions are just a little different than the Promags). This should also be able to handle heavier mags (drums, anyone?) as the Uzi latch is a lot more robust than the Reising mag latch.

Disadvantages are that with this magwell in place, you can only use Uzi-style mags. With the sleeve, I can go between Reising and Uzi mags with no changes to the gun.

But for someone with just a couple factory mags, this is a no-brainer, being able to buy inexpensive 22-round mags. And it’s less expensive, but I was able to get a Taylor Freelance basepad on the Promag Uzi mag for 25 rounds.
