Number one rule of the Gun, Do you have it with you! Yes, a Uzi is pistol cal, questionable out past 200, but are you more likely to have it when you need it, is it manuverable, ammo readily availible/cheap? We have a 416 Rigby, it will stop a truck if needed, no body armor would stop it and if it did you would probably die from the crushed ribs puncturing your lungs, but is it small and light enough to have with you when needed. For a civilian, a SBR Uzi SA or FA is perfect, you are not going to be going out hunting BG's, you simply want to survive in an emergency, get out of a bad area (caught in middle of LA Riots?), stop an intruder who is in your house.

Now we have several firearms available around the house and both carry when going anywhere, the Uzi's will be at the top of our list as "go to gun's" in an emergency. Range toy's are things like Pen-Gun's and NA 22 derringers, Uzi's are at the top of my list of "Lets get serious" tools.

Had to smile when I saw mention of the .416 Rigby. We have one in our gun racks, as well as a .375 H&H, and just about everything else down to and including an AR-7 and Smith Model 18 in .22. Our Uzi Model B carbine's somewhere in the middle of this mix, but isn't the first thing I'd grab in a SHTF situation. If I had no option but 9mm it'd be my Beretta M9, not the Uzi, but I've always prefered .45s. Carried a M1911A1 for 8-10 hours a day, five or six days a week, for 30+ years. As for SHTF go-to ordnance, ours' (lady of the house is also a shooter) consists of my trusty ol' M1911A1, her .41 Magnum single action, a 12ga. 870 Magnum, and an HBAR in .223.

A suppressed UZI with a light would be a fine choice for a home defense weapon, although using a full-auto UZI in full-auto might bring heat from an over-zealous prosecutor, I cannot see any issues with a suppressed SBR Uzi or a suppressed full-auto UZI (fired in semi-auto) for home defense. One potential consideration is that the police might keep your UZI/suppressor in an evidence locker for a year, neglecting it.

Without going through the entire post threat, thoughts on the Umarex Uzi .22 pistol (or rifle) on the same query?

Shot 1,000's of rounds through my mini 14, Colt AR15 and other toys. For me, my Uzi with its detachable stock and short barrel makes a good compact gun, backpack gun. Depends on the situation if it would be my first SHTF gun, some situations yes, inner city maybe, in the woods/farm area I live no. I agree with StooperZero,( Simply put, it is a firearm capable of killing a human )

Thats my thought, in a war zone I would prefer a 551 or AR, in most likely situations the wife and I would be in at home or running around the State, my SBR Uzi will be just fine. I can hit out to 100 yards no problem, plenty of ammo, compact, reliable, easy to get in play fast. Sure my 551 will reach out and touch someone, but if I have that much distance I would probably run and let 911 take care of it. Now if they did something that made me want to hunt them, the Uzi will still be fine unless I'm going up against a pro. Then also if it was a pro it would not make a difference as I'ld be dead unless I knew he was coming or he screwed up bad.

The premis of this thread was a breakdown of social order/no police, I'm pretty sure calling 911 wont do you any good , just saying.
I think the uzi would be a very capable weapon in the right cirumstances. (close quarters fighting). Of course it wouldnt be the weapon of choice for 100+ yard sniper shots, but I think as an all around weapon in capable hands it would be quite leathal. We all know it would not have the penatrating power of the rifle rounds but that is not the intent of the design of this particular weapon, and it does have its advantages, lower recoil, and very maneuverable. Plus you can break it down for easy backpack carry, and it is reliable. Also ammo is much more plentiful and cheaper. In close quarters battle or inside a building, I think an UZI could fare quite well.

In a social breakdown situation with no 911, the Uzi would still be close at hand and I would use it or my 551 to get me a M-60 or SAW. If things are that bad there are no more rules or laws but to win and survive at the the top of the food chain

Uzis were not designed for plinking or any kind of sport shooting. They were designed for warfare. The Israelis knew what they were doing. For those who think that the 9mm is less than lethal, try telling that to the thousands of relatives of all those who have met their maker as a result of being on the receiving end of a 9mm weapon.

If it came down to it. Sub guns would be used from the windows. I don't compete. Don't fantasize about SHTF. I own an Uzi because it is fun to shoot. Haven't shot it in years. Though I have the magazines, ammo for it. After the fun factor worn off. I would take the Uzi to the range to let others shoot it. With their ammo. Serious tool? Yes. Range toy? Yes.

I go to my friends house. He says, you want to shoot my Machine guns? I'll pass. Went to his farm last weekend. Son shot a deer with a bolt action. That was some great fun for both of us.

I own an uzi because its a collectable and a fun gun to shoot. But in a shtf situation it is the tool to keep me and my family protected.I dont intend to go out hunting rioters from 200 yds. But if any come to my property to cause harm, my model A has never failed me and I know it will not then.It was desing for combat and this is what they like to do. The fact that they draw a smile from you at the range is a bonus.

Way freakin' too close to the city....especially n
I think the UZI is both. I like my Tavor but the UZI is just awesome and so easy to shoot.

Took it to the range with a friend of mine. We were shooting different guns and toward the end, he was shooting a revolver in 32 short and I inserted a 25 round mag in the UZI and started shooting at a Dirty Bird single target at 25 yards. After 8 or 10 rounds, he just stopped shooting and watched my target because I was removing the red center of the target. Not a single round out of the center. He was in awe and said he'd like to own one.

A great gun, even in semi...IMO

Haven't shot my Vector semiauto much the past 2 years. This year, I will take it out monthly. It is a nice change from the AR15 and others. It eats reloaded ammo without a hiccup.
