I have been wanting a plain handguard for a while and can only find the 9mm version. Here's what I came up with: A 4" alloy free float. Will go for a 4"quad AR pistol forend next. Removed my strap hanger and this feels pretty good almost carbine like to aim.

Next I plan to make use of the skinny CAR handguards and use a delta ring assembly for this look

I like it. I often use a handguard type upper. So I can hide a 10" barrel in there.

Does ILWT make 7/8-9 adapters? I know he makes 3/4-10 for 9mm barrels.

Your 4" free float with a 7/8-9 bushing is a simple and clean method. I like it. If you have dual-threaded barrel you should still be able to pretty easily use a can without removing the handguard.
