Hey Ouens,

Has anyone got an R5 gas tube they're willing to part with in the US?

Also looking for a ZA gasblock and folding stock.

Thanks
Welcome to the site. Man I never thought I would see the day when South African counterparts have to look for South African R-Series parts here in the USA! Where are all the SA parts?

Not sure why he would sell it off of his LM5; leaving it incomplete?

There are original R5/LM 5 gas tubes out there; just have to do your research.

Dit was net 'n grap.

Do you have a source for them? Have checked virtually any mil-surp dealer stateside, as well as various classifieds.

I don't necessarily want to build a museum grade R5-ish clone, but would just like to cover the broad strokes.

these are without the lip. Also rare yes indeed but I managed to swop for a R5/LM5 tube.
wildcard did you manage to get a original R5 gastube with the flared or oversized end or is it a standard SAR Galil type gas tube? It is a shame that Denel no longer makes the old style gastubes.

It is a shame yes. I heard a rumour Denel may start producing parts only again. Not sure how true this is. The truth is government has a huge shortage of parts and have stryed to realise this according to my source so the rumour might be true. But I highly doubt they will sell to the civilian though.

I swopped the LM6 tube for a LM5 tube so I am not sure presently as I did not ask bit hopefully its the proper R5 tube. I should know by next week though when I receive it.

Did you swap with Nobelteq, or with a local trigger puller?

I'm having a relative in SA enquire on my behalf on some parts, but he's quite sure that there are no LM5 gas tubes available.

I'm having a relative in SA inquire on my behalf on some parts, but he's quite sure that there are no LM5 gas tubes available.

In the first place I ordered a LM5 gastube from Nobleteq. First to be told they don't have stock. In fact I ordered a LM5 gas rod piston with LM5 tube from them. They emailed me telling me they have the piston rod but not the tube. SO they invoice me for the piston rod only. I made payment and told them to keep the rod aside with my order details till they have have the LM5 tubes. three weeks later I get an invoice telling me thet have R5/LM5 tubes now. I make payment and only to receive a R6/LM6 tube. with not flair lip on them.

Long story short but they said sorry and they will will repaced it with a LM5 tube once they have. But I found a willing a private person who has a LM5 tube but wants a LM6 tube. so we swopped. I amwaiting in pain for it to arrive hoping its is the real genuine LM/5 /R5 tube bit will be in touch. Hoping it is though.and the rigth one. I shall be in touch.

Congrats!

This gives me a little confidence that Nobelteq can get one to Oom Kobus, but will have to see.

Just a headsup quickly...

Dont get your hopes up to high regarding Nobleteq. Here is my story regarding the gastubes:

I ordered a LM5 gastube. I was told they have NO STOCK.
A few weeks later the gastube was supplied.
Only to discover its a LM6 gastube with ni lip or flair.
After contacting then I was told that its a mistake they dont have LM5 tubes. And if they get it will be a tube without the flair.
I then swopped a private person. The new LM6 tube for a secondhand original Denel made LM/R5 tube with the flair. Like its suppose to be.

I highly doubt they will ever be able to supply the original stuff anymore.
Expect modified tubes. Most likely cut down R4 tubes or even imported Galil goods.
Even if they get the manufacturing tools from Denel the costs to manufacture will defeat the object.

Ah, well that is most unfortunate.

Jeff Miller says he can recreate an R5 flare out of a regular Galil SAR tube, but I'm much more interested in having an original.

Well, if he can manage that I for one, would love to get one as another spare just in case.
But I have emailed Jeff before regarding some things but he failed to get back to me. After numerous emails. So I doubt he will be willing to help me.
