The manual says use of lacquer coated steel cased ammo is bad and sticks in the chamber.

I have little experience buying steel case ammo but I am considering buying some for Max upper.

What brands of steel case ammo work with the MAX-11/15 and Max-11A1/15?

I've never had a problem with steel case.
No matter the cal.

I also don't run it often due to the price going up.

There are some good vids on steel vs brass torture tests.

This is just one of many.

I would think a OB gun would negate the chance of lacquer melting then cooling resulting in a stuck chamber since the case is only ever in the chamber only long enough to discharge.

I like steel case stuff for places brass retivial is limited.
Like high grass, lost brass matches, and stuff like that.

I also liked steel case a lot more when the x39 was 89 TYD and 223 was 109 TYD

Plus 1 vote for lacquered steel case. Ran 100k rounds of golden tiger 223 through all kinds of machineguns. I love it. Buy with confidence

During Beta Testing, the lacquer coated steel cased ammo stuck in the chamber on the third or fourth round and it was a bitch to get out. This was with a cool barrel. You can see and feel the lacquer coating if you scratch it with your finger nail. I don't know if lacquer coated ammo is still in current production, but if you find some old surplus, I would not use it. Wolf Military Classic, Wolf Polyformance and Tula are all great steel cased ammo to use. I believe Tula can be tuned with the adjustable gas block to shoot the softest and run the slowest of all the steel cased variants.

I shot my Lage Max 11/15 for the first time today and what a hoot it is to shoot. The question/problem is I did shoot steel ammo through it and not sure if it is lacquer coated. I don't think so as it is really "dirty" stuff. After 120 rounds the bolt would get stuck in the chamber and it was really difficult to get the charging slide back. If it is lacquer, how do you get it out of the chamber. I cleaned the upper and the bolt still sticks in the chamber. Thanks for any information.

Interesting. I've been running new manufacture laqure 5.45x39 for a while now in an AKSU. It runs best with laqure and I have occasional extraction issues with poly coated. Not really enough gas without a can for it to cycle. I do get buildup on the bolt face eventually but it's not really a big deal.

Wonder why the Max15 has issues with it. Tighter chamber maybe?

I have been using Wolf, Barnaul,PMC,Winchester with good results. Will not use lacquer ammo in any of my guns. Love my MAX-11/15 upper Richard!

UPDATE: After having time to take the upper apart, looks like it is actually the gas tube has been malformed and doesn't go into the gas key appropriately. Not sure if the ammo was a contributor or not, but going to have to replace gas tube at a minimum.

Turns out my ammo was not lacquer coated, it was zinc plated...MFS .223. I Will have to call Richard's shop tomorrow for advice on the bolt sticking in the chamber. Thanks for everyone's advice.
