Hey guys!

So I know absolutely nothing about the Sten/Sterling. I am an expat living in Prague, Czech Republic and came across this in a gun shop.

Are the magazines valuable? I wonder if there would be any issues bringing them back to the states.

Mags start around $35 here.

I hope you picked up the Mk4. That's an unbelievably low price here.

I'd like to see some more pics if you got it.

Expat is short for expatriate and while it has a few definitions is generally used to mean one who is living or working in a foreign country.

Maybe those are deactivated guns? Or the Sterling?

the czech republic is one of the few other nations on the planet that is not a third-world shithole, and where citizens can legally own machineguns. i suspect that both the sterling, and the scorpion, are MG's.

I am an American. My wife is Czech and here in Prague doing a 2 year masters program.

As for firearms, citizens or those with temporary residency are allowed to purchase firearms once they obtain a permit. The permit is basically a test on safe gun handling and on firearms laws. Once they have that permit they are allowed to purchase firearms and ammunition. For machine guns they must apply for a "collector" permit. Besides that, there is no permit required for concealed carry and there are restrictions on open carry.

None of the firearms in that shop are deactivated, and there were many MGs there. I was unsure on the sterling since I don't know much about the selector switch.

Soooo...newby here. I've been lurking for a while now.

Tell us more about the Czech Republic. What's it like? What are the folks like? What is life like there - in general?

I'm planning a trip to Oktoberfest this year & I'd like to visit Prague afterwards.

Prague it pretty cool. Majority of the population are Caucasian with the majority being non-religious. LOTS of pubs. They are the biggest beer drinkers in the world by capita (by FAR). Diet is mainly meat and potatoes. Lots of Pork and dumplings. People are very nice and very willing to buy you a beer or a shot.

The city itself is beautiful. Lots of great mid-evil architecture that escaped destruction throughout the years. Lots of great sights to see and right in the center of Europe (cheap travel to wherever you wanna go).

I will be at Oktoberfest this year as well. Perhaps we can meet up? If you wanna visit Prague, I am sure you could find a bus ticket for around $30 round trip and I would be happy to show you around.

Price wise it is one of the cheaper places to travel. Food is very cheap, it is easy to find a large meal in a restaurant for under $5, beer is usually around $1.30 per half liter in the bar with shots around $2, etc.

I dunno how many people watch "without reservations", but here is one recent show where Anthony Bourdain went to Prague:

Here are a few quick shots from around the city/some more gun shop photos.

Damn there's a pile of nice guns there!

I saw the 'No Reservations' on Prague. I loved it. All Bourdain wanted to do was get drunk and eat sausage. I also found it hilarious when his local guide fell threw the rotted floor in the 1600's era brewery.

Good beer and lots of guns. What's not to love? Live it up and buy some.

Yeah, everyone that I know that has visited has had a great time. Every time we go on a little trip (around Germany, Poland, Greece, Italy, etc.) we always seem to find someone who is traveling around Europe and willing to come visit. There are never any complaints!

It seems that Czech is a more popular tourist destination for Europeans and Asians. Though you will see many Americans there, the majority of English speakers I have run across are from the UK.

Great and affordable place to travel if you are ever going through Europe!

haha yeah, it is a great episode. I found it especially funny because I have had the same experiences. You go eat at someones house or meet with someone, and out comes the shots and the beer.

Mmmmm their food is so damn good there! Their sausages especially.

I would love to purchase a firearm there, but I only have a visa. Thank god there are no laws about carrying knives!
