Haven't seen any for sale in a while. Whats an average fair market value for a transferable Sterling conversion?

Stenling and or Sterling conversion, are they not the same? No one converts a Sterling to a Sten. Mine is a Don Quinnell conversion done on an Erb Sten and i'm thinking of selling her.

No, it’s not the same.

Stenlings are built on a Sten receiver tubes. They have a wider cocking slot than the Sterling has. There are also internal differences.

There are several kinds of Sterling conversions. Mk6’s have been converted to Mk4’s and Mk4’s have been converted to Mk5’s. PAWS have also been converted to Sterlings, etc.

Don’s are the least desirable because they have a very poor reputation in general. Some people say they have a good one, but generally they have a lot of issues. They can be fixed, but it’s going to be around $1,500 to $2,000 to have it done right.

I couldn't disagree with you more! I have a Don's Gun shop sterling that runs 100% and looks fantastic. Not 1 problem with it and thousands of rounds through it. I contacted Andrewski and he flat out told me that he was no longer doing the sten to sterling conversions because it takes up too much time. I don't know why people say they are the least desirable. Don does great work if you give him the time to do it. If you are someone who has to call him everyday asking if its done then he will do a rush job on your project.

Well I have to disagree with you on Dons work.I had Don build me a sterling on my sten tube back in 09.He did weld up the cocking slot to sterling spec.Thats the only thing he did right as far as Im concerned. The rest of it was total crap.4 times it was sent back to fix cracked welds not to mention the self folding stock!Sent it to John last june for a complete rebuild and refinish.Excellent work.Traveler is correct in his observations about Dons so called workmanship or lack thereof.Im glad You got a good one. Many including myself did not.Get one of Johns if you can find one.

You are one the few who say they have a good one. You are lucky. MGMAN45’s experience reflects the majority, especially the cracked welds.

And it’s not just the quality of the work - http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?49110-Stolen-MK5-parts-show-up!

I could say that about a few of the Andrewski Swedish K builds I have seen. They were less than desirable and the finishing was sloppy. The welds were not that great either....

At the end of the day just look it over and if it looks good to you, buy it and be happy. To many people think if their internet hero didn't build it, then it's junk....that is not the case. There are a lot of talented gunsmiths out there...
