Stephenville closed bolt won't cock

A friend called and said his old 1987(ish) Stephenville closed bolt M-10/9mm won't cock. Says the bolt retracts about an inch and stops. I know little about the SA closed bolt versions - any ideas as to whats going on?

Remove the upper and check to see if the ejector rod slipped out and is under the bolt. This causes the back of the bolt to hit the ejector rod that is angled downward beneath the bolt.

That sounds plausible. He's bringing it by this weekend so I'll check that out.

I suspect it is but I don't know for sure. The owner was called out of town on business and has not yet brought it by.
