Sterling Optic Mounts

Received a few e-mails asking for a "non marking" (barrel shroud finish) optic mount.

Any other interest in a Sterling Optic Mount?

-"V" Block design that will accurately clamp to your barrel, regardless of slight barrel diameter changes, inside the barrel shroud

-Two or three stand offs that will be smaller then your barrel shroud holds and mount to your Barrel V block. The stand offs will hold a Picatinny Rail (@3.3") or a mount for a J-point/Dr optic. Nothing touches your Powder Coat finish so your shroud finish will stay nice.

-Cooling holes where applicable and clearance in the V block to allow heat dissipation.

-Components will be held together with socket head cap screws. Access to the screws will be designed so you can fit the Allen wrench thru the barrel shroud holes.

-Dark Parked finish

Hi Joe,
Sounds great. If I use a quick-detach mount on the optic, will the Picatinny rail be low enough to use the iron sights without the optic attached? It would be neat to have the gun quickly convertible from irons to optics to shoot in different classes at some upcoming local matches.
Sounds really neat. Post a picture when you get one ready, too. I'll probably take one either way, but I'd like it even better if it's low enough to use the sights w/o the red dot.

The pic shows see thru mounts so optics or peeps can be used at the same time. The rail will be like the one on the top of the pic. You can use the peep sight or the optic with out removing the optic. I could make lower stand offs so the peeps can only be used if the optic is removed. Your choice on one or the other or for a little $ more both.

The standoffs will "key" inside counter bores in the optic rail and the barrel clamp. Screws are just holding the items together they are not keeping things aligned.

I need a better idea on how many want one, If I'll only be making a few $156.00ea

I was hiding this in the "supporters area" so my boss (wife) didn't see my latest "fix". Needless to say, she knows now. I was very intent on avoiding the "equal spending clause".....

I had a few failed attempts to use bushings and screws locking onto the shroud with a slotted weaver rail to accomodate variation in the hole locations and using offset holes to allow the use of the iron sight. I had settled on using a 1/8 round inner sleeve or plate to secure the rail from above. I think your approach using the barrel to support and align the mount sounds better from the point of protecting the finish and being able to use the iron sight.
My only concern will be from heat transfer and keeping the screws tight. I would suggest using "larger than you should" screws to hold the torque and endure disassembly for cleaning. I have had the painted finish on my Sterling smoking on a few occasions!

Very nice Joe, but you need a shorter barrel on the SAW! I've been lucky to have fired several belts including a continious one of almost 300 rounds. It eats the nastiest ammo you can find and never chokes. You can see the belted Wolf in the photo, and I've shot a couple of 150+ round belts using some Olympic that neither of my M16 uppers would run with. Needless to say this example is a postie.
