Saw this AUG parts kit on APEX yesterday and got me wondering how you would go about completing something like this. Has anyone ever done these before? I can't find the needed parts for it anywhere (barrel and receiver) so I'm not sure if this is one of those kits you'll need a to put a little more work into tan other ones.

https://www.apexgunparts.com/parts-kits/steyr-aug-kit-vg.html

by the way, I don't plan on buying these and attempting to do it, just a curious question I had.

And before anyone says it (I know someone will!), yes I know parts kit strictly serve as spare parts, not rebuilding kits, but I figured I'd ask anyways :) for the sake of curiosity

Barrels are available, but expensive. I have never seen a receiver. There was a US made copy of the AUG for a few years, but no idea if they also sold receivers.

Barrels run about 400 for the AUG the receiver would need to me made as I've never seen one for sale.

That said I was working 3-11 that day and they sold out on Sat. before I could get home and order one.

MSAR was and is junk ,I had a friend with one. cross hairs fell out of the factory scope sighting it in.

No idea how close to a real AUG the MSAR's were. Couldn't have been to close though since steyr still makes the AUG.

Did not see it until this thread. I would have bought a kit for spare parts, if I had seen it before it sold out.

Don't feel bad that was my plan also and they were gone in 3 hrs.

Jeez, $400 for just a standard barrel? well, I guess it's not as bad as other barrels I've seen. And I figured as such, not much demand for AUG receivers (or just AUGs in general) so probably no company is making spare receivers for these things.

I didn't even know about them either until I got an email from APEX about "Special and More this weekend!", I couldn't even find them under their parts-kit section, I had to do quite a bit of digging to find it; typed in "AUG parts kit" and eventually I found it at the last page. Pretty good price for them too from what it looks like, all the other ones I've seen were well beyond the $1000 price tag.

Thanks for the input you two

No after market maker of barrels. $400 is actually a good deal on an Aug barrel. Paid more than that for my LMG barrel.

They are back in stock I just ordered one.

Also called on the phone they listed 25 more and will have about 100 more then it's tits up on the kits.

Ya PJ has parts kits but on top of no barrel and no receiver also no trigger pack. 1200 bux.

I bought my A1 from him he's pretty much the authority for all things AUG. and has helped me lean the system well.

I got the last 3 NOS 42 rounders also at 29 bux each they were the cheapest I've seen in a year or so.

So anywho get one while you can @500 bux after shipping and tax these parts are pretty rare if you need spares.

After finally buying one it has become my most favorite 223/556 rifle and I have shot/owned a few.

PS: direct link to the kit.

Don’t discredit that the trigger packs are selectable between 3round burst and full auto by switching the lever in the bottom. That model trigger pack is quite rare, and has sold for a few hundred dollars by itself.

I'd love to have an AUG, even a SA. Due to surgery, my left forearm is very weak, and the 1st rifle I built (and shot) after the surgery was a Ruger Mini 14 Bullpup, with a stock from Brownells.

I really wish that I would have know about the availability. I have a newly purchased Fleming registered receiver AUG. It's from an estate, was purchased prior to the '86 ban and is in newish condition. Unfortunately, it's set up for left hand ejection and doesn't have the anti-bounce pins installed. I'm told by others who know a heck of a lot more about AUGs than I do that I need several full auto parts to make sure it's safe and reliable. How much were the kits?

kits were 300 from AIM missing a ton of pieces by the looks of it. it appears when they tossed the receiver any parts in that went too.

The APEX kits were/are complete less receiver and barrel. 500 ( better deal )

Best bet is to call PJ @ http://www.pjs-steyraug.com/index.html

I'd have him install all FA parts to the gun since it's a RR and eliminate any semi parts.

With that said APEX "might" have more kits to list when they get to it. but you will need to check the site a few times a day.

I was on the notify me when in stock list and just happened to refresh the page when they were in stock.
Grabbed one and the next day got the email they were back in stock only to see sold out again.

They did tell me on the phone they listed 25, then 25, supposedly they will have 100 more to sell. ( don't hold your breath) to when they will get to them or if they even still have them.

Since your gun is registered receiver your best bet is to make the gun 100% FA parts to avoid any problems.

I could use your left hand bolt as I am a lefty and my A1 is setup as a lefty with no spare bolt.

That's the plan, but Pete isn't having luck getting FA parts from Steyr. I asked about 10 months ago, so he's been waiting longer than that.

That's the plan, but it's my understanding that some modifications have to be done given that the full and semi receivers are different in some regards.

I plan on getting a new full auto BCG with anti-bounce pins and a right hand bolt. I'll be happy to work out a deal with you on the left hand bolt. I took a few spent cases to the face when test firing, so it's got to go.

The stocks are also different between the FA and SA but some guys have had luck mating a FA stock to a semi receiver that's been converted to FA.

Not supposed to work but some have had a perfect fit.

I wanna know what estate sales you guys that find transferables at?
All I ever find is used furniture and cheap dishes!!!!!

And yes I do go to them just to see what is to be had.

I occasionally see shotguns and rifles, but with the single exception of a Winchester 1897, everything is either cheap "deer rifles" or cheap .22 rifles. And the dishes and furniture you mentioned.

My APEX kit showed up Mon.

Ya the kits are back in stock must be the last batch of 100 they had told me on the phone they were going to list.

Been to busy to do more then open it and check that it was all there. ( it is )
I need to go through it real well and see what the over all condition is.
It is used for sure just want to make sure it's not abused or used up beyond being spare parts.

I need to go through it real well and see and also do some more research on it.

One thing I noticed is the stock doesn't have the traditional steyr logo molded on it under the ejection port and it's got no left hand ejection port.
Both lead me to my original thoughts that the kit is Mylasian.

I called to ask if they could make sure that I received a right hand ejection bolt, but was told that they can't sort through the kits to do so. Other than not having a provision for right hand ejection, what else makes the Malaysian kits different? Were they made in Austria or somewhere else?
