The stock on my Sterling, as well as the spare that I have, both collapse when I squeeze the diagonal part toward the top of the stock.

They do this without me pressing the latch inside the buttplate.

Will this "break in" or should I plan on filing a few thousanths off the latch nubs so that they catch better?

Thanks!
Mario

If I understand your problem correctly, it sounds like the leaf spring in the butt doesn't engage enough of the upper stock to hold it open. With the stock opened and laying on its side, you will see a window on the side of the buttplate. I would pry the spring lightly so that it is bent towards the muzzle more. This causes the end of the leaf spring to better engage the stock and keep it locked open. I have to depress the spring about 1/2" to disengage and fold the butt.

WOW!
My leaf spring on both stocks is almost laying flat to the inside of the buttstock, even with the diagonal part of the stock compressed and not pressing on the leaf at all.
I'll have to look at it closer now.
Thanks!
Mario
