I had been following the conversations/threads here on Subgun24's .22lr conversion kit for the S&W 76 and MK-760. I was really encouraged by all the positive reviews and particularly comments from Kickstand. I decided to get a kit and 3 extra magazines, for a total of 6 magazines for my S&W 76 1,9XX serial range. I am very fortunate because Mr. Subgun24 himself lives a short drive from me. He also shoots at a monthly match that I participate in so I often seen him there. He was gracious enough to meet me at a local range yesterday (12/18/25) and helped me set up the kit in my gun, discussed various spring lengths, the break-in procedure, and basically be an all-around awesome guy.
We did minimal shooting then, and today I went to another range in the area where myself and my daughter really gave the kit a good workout. We put about 1,000 rounds of CCI-Mini mags through it. After about 2 or 3 jams while breaking in the magazines, the remaining 997 rounds were flawless. This, in my experience with .22 kits, is incredible. I did no fiddling/tweaking or anything. It was just shoot and shoot without issue. The ejection was very positive and consistent. We pretty much were shooting short bursts of 2 to 5 or so rounds, but did larger strings as well with no issue. We used all 6 magazines during this trip to the range. I did not try shooting semi-auto today, though we ran into issues yesterday while setting up the kit shooting in semi for whatever reason. Perhaps we hadn't done enough of a break in session. Today my daughter and I could easily get 2-shot bursts but pulling singles with the selector set to full auto will require a bit more trigger time for me to master.
The only issue we ran into was leading in the last quarter of the barrel toward the muzzle. I have gotten my Uzi .22 lr conversion kit barrel leaded after the barrel gets a bit hot, and it can be a chore to remove the lead. Using elbow grease and a sturdy cleaning rod I got all the fouling out.
In my opinion, this kit is a must have for S&W 76/MK-760 owners. If you are on the fence about it, I would strongly encourage you to get one. I rarely shot my 76 previously because it had a high cyclic rate, I couldn't hit squat with it, and it beat up the end cap shooting in 9mm. With this .22 kit that has changed. I likely will have to get a red dot mount to dial things in regarding accuracy. We did not really "put it on paper," rather shooting clumps of grass on the berm and the like. Obviously when the barrel got leaded, the accuracy went out the window.
I have attached some pictures of the kit as I was cleaning things this evening. Really looks nice. Looking forward to shooting it more.
I should add, Subgun24 provided multiple recoil springs. I was using the "break in" spring, which was the longest of them.
