I picked up a bunch of Suomi drums and coffin mags for my Lage upper so I decided to build a Suomi m31 for my first gun build. I picked up a kit with the semi-auto parts so that helped make my first build fairly easy.

I added a 4th radial axis to my home built CNC mill. It worked great for the engraving I had to do. I also had to machine slots in the receiver tube for the sights and the trigger group.

Next I made a barrel extension and welded it to the barrel. Had to keep the ATF happy.

Here I welded the receiver parts and trigger group together

Before I finished off all the welds I decided to test fire it. I shot about 200 rounds of all types of ammo. It run %100! I've bought new guns that didn't run that well. Hopefully I can finish it up in the next few weeks.

Outstanding! Would like to have a few machines of my own to play with. Luckily I have a good friend that owns a race car performance center who helps turn my ideas into reality.

I finished my Suomi M31 gun build today. I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I wanted to match the patina of all the original parts so it still looks like it was from WW2.

Nice job, looks great! Gorgeous gun. I picked up one of those kits a while back, I'll put it together some day.

Is that a brass-catcher? Is it specific to the Suomi?

What a beautiful gun! How did you match that patina? Is it blued and worn?

I just used some cold blueing. It matched the original part very nicely and left that 85 year old gun look.

I have two semi-auto TNW Suomi M31s of which only one works dependably so kudos on your workmanship! I would love to do some kit building myself one day so I find your thread is very inspiring. Thanks for posting!
