Thank you.

Interesting. ABC and Rarebreed both are talking about the FRT-15 type of trigger. Which has nothing is nothing to do with HT's SS. Which by the way is far superior to the FRT "cassette" type trigger, when make from metal.

I'm excited to see more people working on the M&P 15-22 SS trip.
I haven’t taken the time to sift through all the docs or read the patent in question. With creative claim drafting, you can make a patent application that was originally written about one product read on another product that is quite different.

Since no one patented the SS as far as I know, ABC could theoretically force everyone else out of the market and then make it for themselves.

Another result of not having patented the SS is that there probably isn’t a single party with enough vested interest to litigate. If someone went through the time and expense to invalidate the asserted patent, they’d have to share the market with all the other SS sellers that can pop up overnight. It doesn’t seem like a hard product to have manufactured.

I read the patent for the FRT-15 that RB owns. It does not mention ABC LP, LLC. https://patents.google.com/patent/US10514223B1/en
The FRT-15 has nothing to do with the SS except in concept. Pat. currently assigned to RB.

I found many SS sellers in 3 mins of searching. They are popping up everywhere. Good for them. HT gave this info free to the world. There are 10s of Ks of the metal ones sold now. Who know how many printed.

We just need a reliable, functional and select-fire Glock SS now, and a reliable SS trip for the S&W 15-22.
:)

If you click the link for the court case in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, they have ABC and Rare Breed listed as plaintiffs, and the entry seems to imply that Rare Breed is the operating company. However, that case was filed in 2023.

I think the latest effort against the Super Safety involves the ‘247 Patent:

Good find. The patent is still a "cassette" style trigger. It's nothing like the SS except in concept and outcome. I hope RB is not trying to own the SS market with threats and intimidation. I can definitely see how the SS is hurting their bottom line. Who is going the spend 5X as much for a less reliable product?

IIRC, Benchmade has sued numerous knife companies over the years alleging patent infringement. To hear them tell it they invented the pointy stick and everything thereafter. Most simply settle and discontinue the model or feature they object to.

This sounds like maybe someone is following their playbook...

I am primarily an IP litigator (mostly patent) but still do a bit of patent prosecution work (helping people obtain patents). It is an enjoyable practice area, though I understand why it can be very confusing and frustrating. Many small entities do not want to invest in the expense of developing a patent portfolio, but that often leaves them vulnerable to those who have done so. Patents can be both a sword and a shield.

Sounds like Benchmade another reason to hate them on top of their copious donations to things against the very people they market and sell to plus their anti-2A stance that they flaunt now and then.

I remember those. I thought the Co was out of business. They've expanded. The ultimate AR kit.

no the bazoka brs was made for certain uppers cmmg being one, so no ejector
Sorry, I was looking at the picture of the Hydra online. Can it work with the CMMG upper? It looks like it has a fixed ejector, but maybe it can be removed.

I've been over to Reddit peeking on the progress of the people working on the S&W 15-22 SS trip. I've bugged SS makers to promote the development of a 15-22 trip. I also posted an update on the S&W 15-22 forum . Here is what I posted. If I got something incorrect please let me know.

"What is the SS?"

The SS refers to the Super Safety. The SS is a simple device that turns the AR selector into an active trigger safety. It resets the trigger allowing much faster manual trigger pulls. It has 3 settings, safe, semi and super safe. Super safe resets the trigger, lightens the trigger pull, but still requires the shooter to manually pull the trigger for each shot. This is unlike a machine gun where the shooter pulls the trigger once and the gun fires until the trigger is released or the ammunition is exhausted.

Basically, it gives everyone the abilities of Jerry Miculek on an AR.

It's not full-auto by ATF's legal definition, design or function.

It is the most fun, legal and innovative firearm accessory we've have seen in a long time.

Hoffman's video demonstrates his 3D printed AR lower with his SS. The SS works with most low-shelf aluminum lowers. Low-shelf meaning, the height of the aluminum material behind the selector cam is lower than the top of the selector cam. The 15-22 is a perfect candidate because it has very little material behind the selector cam.

Originally designed for the AR, versions of the SS can be used reliably in the AK, FAL, HK, Stribog and AUG. The list platforms grows every day. It was created By Hoffman Tactical and the design was given to the world for free as a downloadable 3D print file.

Hundreds of thousands of downloads and dozens of small companies started making and selling the SS in a variety of durable materials. These companies make their SS from 4140, S7, and stainless steel tool steels for under $100.

The SS is available with the complete kit (modified AR trigger, rounded detent, cam and lever $100) or just the (lever, detent and cam $80) then owners can mod their own trigger or detent if you have basic smith skills you can modify a mil spec trigger or use the supplied trigger jigs. I spent 5 minutes with my rotory tool to modify a normal mil spec AR trigger.

It is similar, in the objective, to the Rare Breed Triggers LLC (FRT-15) triggers but more user friendly, reliable, cheaper and less complicated than the FRT-15. Rare Breed Triggers LLC knows this. RB's legal rep has started sending out C&D letters to small makers claiming RB owns the patent for all "forced reset triggers" designs. Allegedly, so RB can start making them and dominate the SS market. If this is so, NOT cool RB and ABC LP LLC. Shame on you! RB didn't invent the SS. We supported your legal fight. Don't screw over the 2A community.

The SS is very reliable in rifle caliber platforms. It's more difficult for 22ARs to run the SS reliably using the Ciener/CMMG 22LR system in ARs. It is possible for the SS to function with certain barrel length configurations/bolt weights but variations across AR15 makers, 22 kit makers and 22LR ammo creates challenges. A special SS trip (not a CMMG 22LR full auto trip) and bolt weights are needed for 22LR kits to be reliable.

Many people enjoy the challenge of tuning the SS to 22LR ammo to benefit from the cost savings over 5.56/223 ammo.

There are people sharing and printing their versions of 3D plastic trips for the AR22 bolt assemblies on various websites. Unfortunately, the 3D printed parts wear fast, typicly under a few hundred rounds. Most people would prefer metal parts that last a much longer time, like the Borebuddy adjustable SS steel and aluminum trip in AR22s.

The SS easily fits in the S&W 15-22. But it requires a new trip design to function. The 15-22 could make a great host because there no variations to is design. This is why I'm sending out a invite to private, commercial, and group creators to help develop the 15-22 SS trip.

Many people are working on it but no one has cracked the puzzle, yet.

Tacticool22, where are you? :D

I wanted to include a warning to those people who would install a SS in a 15-22. Installation requires removal of the grip. The 15-22 receivers are polymer. Reinstalling the grip must be done carefully. It is easy to over tighten or cross thread the grip screw and strip the 15-22 polymer receiver threads. :)

Maybe change this to say that it is a legal semi auto based on the law and that ATF has been forced to recognize that fact? You could link to the ATF letter on them.

I haven’t seen a FAL SS yet.

Most SS suppliers are folding up under the C&D. At least one has stated their intention to fight it

Nice job on the info. Good luck
