By playing with different buffers, buffer tubes and springs I've got the ROF to 678 RPM. The CMMG factory Banshee 45 SMG is 740 RPM. It's been very reliable and soft shooting with the slower ROF.

I'm not done playing yet. Ive got more combos to test.
Keep us posted. The CMMG .45 Banshee is tempting to me.

Just got back from shooting.
4CIGtGHsSDL04HKrQs.webp

I found a combination of parts to make my CMMG 45 Banshee run at 601 RPM with the SS.

Thanks to Blowback9 and Amphibian for their research. I had to hybrid that stuff. I'll post a video soon.

5" CMMG 45 Banshee

GMR SS

JRC 8.5" buffer tube

10.5 oz KVP reciprocating buffer

KynSHOT 3/4" 2.5 oz spacer weight, it sits on top of the buffer.

Tubbs 5.56 flat wire spring

230 gr Fed American Eagle RN

Amazing data dump, thanks for sharing! How is the recoil impulse? Any plans to try one of the magnetic buffers?

Have more springs coming to test.
I'm going to shoot more of the combos I like and see what feel right.
Then maybe a magnetic buffer.

Anybody have experience with SSing a SIG516 short-stroke piston-driven AR?
I have a 7.5 barrel version that’s just asking for it.

The one very bright spot is that the injunction by RB against Partisan was denied. Partisan has a patent earlier than RB. RB previously tried to buy the patent from Partisan and were turned down. That helps show that RB knew they had an invalid (hopefully) patent

Do you have a link to the order? I’d like to read it. Two of the elements required for a preliminary injunction are likelihood of success on the merits and whether the injunction is in the public’s interest. The court’s comments on those element could be very revealing.

I kinda miss the traditional AR15 selector. I think I'm going to dip my toe in the world of the mini Kabuto/TURD FRT. I think I will start with a builders kit. I may need to start a new thread.

I’d rather have a traditional selector. I don’t hate the push button SS, but I still have to think about which position is which.

I don't mind it mostly but I have moved the the sliding button into semi a few times while shooting.

So I was searching the internet for random stuff and came across this forum. Been debating grabbing an MP5 to throw an SS in. Did they ever end up working out all the kinks?

I’ve been busy the last year and haven’t spent much time seeing what’s all come out. Any new platforms that SS/FRT’s came out for that are really worth while? I know someone was trying to do AUG’s but never seen anything come of it.

If you get a lower that accepts AR-15 components you can put a super safety in an MP5. You also need to add a piece that cycles with the carrier and trips the SS. Full size ones need to have a buffer installed on The recoil spring because if it comes back too far it jams on the hammer when it tries to go forward again. It is not a drop in and it works proposition, you have to do it

However late last week Rare Breed put the first batch of MP5 specific forced reset triggers up for sale. These use the original SEF or ambidextrous lower trigger housings that came with the gun. They basically have their own trigger box with a trip lever on the left instead of the factory right side location. It uses the bottom of the carrier not any special surface so it works with any MP5 whether or not it has the extra blocking bar in the receiver. At least three people have run a magazine or two through them already and as far as I can tell they are a drop it in and it works type of thing. There are at least two other companies besides Rare Breed that have these in development and are saying they will be released soon.

The Rare Breed is a little over $600. No idea on the others yet.

Great recap!

With a rounded hammer it’s possible to remove the extended SS buffer. This brings the gun back closer to mp5 speed instead of mp5k speed which is desirable.

With the rounded hammer I did have to add an additional buffer (the thickness of a stock HK buffer) to keep the bolt from hanging up on the SS

The AS Designs (IIRC) engineer has been dropping hints about their upcoming HK FRT. It sounds very interesting and will supposedly use a unique design. I have leber v2s now but am eager to see the ASD design. I’d wait for that instead of buying the RB at this time

There is an AK FRT, Kriss Vector FRT, MP5 FRT, AR15 FRT, as well as some handgun FRT's such as the Taurus TX22, glock 19/17, and S&W shield. There are probably others I am not aware of.

As far as plug and play. The AR15 ones seem to be the easiest to get going. I havent messed with the cassette style, I have really only messed with the Super Safety (which is great) and the Wide Open Trigger (which is obsolete garbage).
There a couple of other designs as well. Strobro32 has been experimenting with a TURD. He has a thread on it and is pretty good about documentation. There is also the Super Selektor.

I think a couple of guys here have done the SS in an MP5. Quick check in the HK sub forum and nobody gave any nitty gritty details.

Posts 123 & 124 for detailed info on my SP5.
It's been 100% since I got it running so long as it is assembled correctly.
