I was looking at some classifieds and a decent amount come with older suppressors, especially MACs. Why do dealers/sellers combine the sale? I was looking at a gun and it comes with an old suppressor that I don’t want. It’s essentially making the gun $200 more and then I have a suppressor I will never use.

I was just curious about this.

Some people want the old cans for collection purposes or just to keep the classic look. You can rebuild them to modern spec and they do work fairly well. I prefer the newer cans myself but I still have the original sionics for completeness. I know every dollar matters but $200 is a drop in the bucket when it comes to MG purchases. If you buy the MG for the price asked you could ask the dealer to separate and resell the can but most likely he doesn't want to keep it in inventory and try to sell an old can by itself, or ask your local dealer to sell it for you when it's transferred in on the Form 3.

Personally I don’t see a great value in used and or antiquated suppressors and I suspect most dealers and sellers feel the same way.
At the end of the day I feel like you pay the tax and get a free suppressor. I got an RPB M11 that way.

I suspect they combine them because that is how they bought them. Like having a Mark23 + KAC can. They kind of go together.

For MACs having a factory original SIONICS is just plain cool for a lot of folks. I had one in addition to a VIPER45.

Also, if they are selling everything else off MAC related, why keep the can that nobody would want to buy by itself?

Take the can and sell it when it’s at your dealer

Keep it on a form 3 and sell for $200 or give to a friend

Offer it here for $100

we deal in a lot of NFA stuff, and $ 100 is the most I will pay for a used can, I usually don't offer any money, unless its needed to make the deal happen, because even as a dealer I still have to pay the $ 200 tax if its coming from an a non SOT.....

Thanks for that info, I didn't know that a Dealer has to pay the $200 for used items; I thought they only transferred it, with the Buyer paying the Tax.

As a dealer most of the time we have to buy the suppressor with the gun just to close the deal. The person selling has never been willing to just sell the gun. I have a new unfired SWD 9mm sionics style suppressor that I may end up re-baffling.

I wish I could find a can for my M10 .45. Not to shoot it. But mainly for the looks.

I'll sell you mine for $1450 (based on the link above) :) I'm actually tempted to list mine and see what happens since mine has a really cool ATF examiners sticker on it like it was a piece of evidence at one time.

Because 2 stamp guns are cooler. I would think it is because most are dedicated to the gun from back in the day. My AWC MK9 slides over the barrel, and replaces the barrel nut to tighten up to the frame. In it's current configuration, I cannot attach it to any of my other weapons, where my Octane 45HD I can switch between many different guns.
I bought mine as a 2 stamper. Everything was submitted together at one time, got the tax stamp back for the suppressor, but not the gun. It was unsatisfying to get the call saying I could have the suppressor, but I could not have the gun as of yet.... Took 2 extra weeks to get the gun stamp. I was very nervous thinking there was going to come up with something wrong with the gun, and it wasn't going to be transferable. Then what was I going to do with the suppressor??? (AWC MK9) I bought mine as a package, and the deal was good enough that the additional $200 tax stamp did not affect my decision at all.

I have two old school cans. One came with my M11A1 and one with M10-45. They came with the guns and I did not pay extra for them but even then I considered giving them to my local dealer rather than paying the $200 tax stamp. But decided to keep them. My plan was to have them rebuilt with modern baffles since the wipes were shot on both of them or at least have the wipes replaced. The thing is after I got them out of jail, and shot them, they are actually very quiet. I will probably still have them rebuilt at some time but for now I am just enjoying them. They look correct on the gun and work well.

I doubt I would buy a special purpose can (dedicated to one gun) but I would not turn one down if it came with a MG.
