I do not know the angle, but here are some comparison photos. The first photos are of an IMI, 26 mag compared to the UZI pro mag, The group photo includes Mec Gar, Bird of Prey, German, IMI and an Argentine Mag, not in that order, I hope this helps. I would like hear other opinions on the Uzi Pro mags. I have a good experience with them in both my Uzi and my AR, but that is not the fiscal word.

Pat

A pic of the mags from the side and rear with a round loaded would clear it up ;)

Thanks for the pics!!!

No ones making FA Thompsons anymore either.

so the mags are different in a SA thompson and Uzi?

(the Thompson may be, but i dont think the Uzi is)

I know they dont make FA of either....i assumed the design was pretty much the same as far as the mags go....the gun is just a closed bolt version SA

i dont know what i dont know

So we are looking at new best quality 32 rd mags for $23. I don't see much to get upset over. Prior to the importation of German parts the going rate for 32s was pretty close to that figure, though 25s were cheaper.

So steel Uzi mags aren't as silly-inexpensive as alloy G3 20 rd mags. The import RTG mags were (and remain) a great deal, especially those $8/mag 50 packs . These are the good old days.

I might try a few of the new IWI mags to see how they work in the Vector.

From the IWI Face Book
IWI US
September 19, 2013 ·
#UZI PRO magazines can be used with the original UZI pistols and carbines, however older UZI style magazines will not be able to be used in the new UZI PRO pistol without modification. This is due to the relocation of the magazine release on the UZI PRO to the polymer pistol grip. The older UZI magazines do not have the proper cutout for the magazine catch of the newer firearms. IWI US will be offering a modification service for the older UZI style magazines.

An UZI mag is an UZI mag, FA or semi. (Except for the Pro)

Thompsons, OTOH, when they went to the semi auto design they lowered the upper receiver to prevent droppping in a FA bolt. This required a lower mounted magazine. The solution was to make the locking hole on the rear oblong at the top, allowing the mag to sit lower. So FA magazines sit higher, but can be modded to fit a SA. Semi spec mags sit too low in a FA.

Or you can do as many (including myself) have done: modify the mag catch of the SA Thompson by lowering the catch shelf 0.1 in. and use unmodified FA mags in the SA as well as FA version.

MHO, YMMV, etc.

Yep. Since I have a FA and SA Thompsons I did the mag catch mod and it works fine. SA mags are quite expensive and I refused to mod FA mags so it was the better thing to do.

Unfortunately, the price of an Uzi drum is bigger than the dream. An easy to load, light weight (polymer?), 50 round drum, with the tower notched for both AR and Uzi mag catches, priced at under $100 would probably get a number of semi auto as well as full auto AR and Uzi buyers. [Disclosure: I did buy a Vector drum from an Uzitalk member off the For Sale listing a while ago. It was priced at the going rate and they hardly ever come up for sale anymore, so I FO'd.]

MHO, YMMV, etc.

ETA: I also have a VM-Hytech AR magwell adapter for unmodified Uzi mags so I was able to rationalize the Uzi drum purchase by telling myself that the drum was for AR use as well as the Uzi.

I've certainly done my part to help dry up the surplus Uzi mag supply. Bought about 30 of em for cheap money back when GWB was president

Concur, I have the C&S Drum, it works great, but is expensive, I have the BETA also,

Has anyone seen a review of this? http://www.galatiinternational.com/product/353X159MM.html

Only for the AR, it looks like the Tower is too short for an UZi mod?

I agree; the XProducts tower looks too short to reach the Uzi latch notch location. Beta mags are pricey, but I believe that one could get the Uzi tower C Mag and notch it for the AR mag latch location. The size and weight of the Beta C Mag discouraged me from trying that route.

Sooner or later all surplus mags will run dry. Look at Sten mags. There was a time that they were so cheap they were used as packing material and now they run $18-24.

That's exactly correct. I remember when grease gun mags were $8-$10 NIW. And the thought of sten mags ever running out was laughable. I bought a pile when they were $3. Remember the Tokarev 7.62x25 ammo that Century was selling for $55 per case of 1280 rounds? Buy six cases and shipping was free. Recall the endless cases of 7.62x51 Portugese ammo that Aim Surplus sold for $140 per case of 1000 with free shipping?

All good things surplus come to an end. And as soon as whatever it is runs out, all the dumbasses who had been contemplating stocking up, suddenly decide now is the time and prices sky rocket. If you need some uzi mags, now it the best time to stock up. My brother and I split a 50-pack of the "rusty" RTG uzi mags -- they were nice. Only 2-3 of them actually had any rust and it was a few spots on the outside surface.

I want to build a 9mm AR and have decided to use the Uzi-type mag system over the Glock type. I already have my stash of mags for the Uzi, and I want to buy more. But I also want these to be cut for BOTH mag catches so that I can not worry about mags getting mixed up that won't work in the other.

And while there are plenty of new production mags for both the AR 9mm systems and now the IWI Uzi mags,...why in the smashed flaming nut sack of Hell is no one producing mags cut to work in BOTH?

I mean seriously. WTF?

I can always just buy more 5-packs of 32-rounders from RTG and spend the time and effort to cut on them all myself. But I'd love to have an easy button here and just buy the damned things.
