Hello All:
I am ordering a SW76 from Jim Burgess.

He has sold all his suppressors and has 7 or 8 guns left.

Once they are gone ,there gone and the ones out there should slowly climb in value

Get yours while you can . $9460 and not negotiable.

with S&W 76s going for 16k-20k ,this is a bargain!!

That’s interesting. I tried to buy him out about 2 years ago when the decline was becoming apparent, but he wouldn’t put a price on it. I would love to get those stemple tubes before they get butchered for 76 builds. The ejection port and magwell goes through savagery for the 76 builds. I have always wondered if Jim got a variance from the atf for those mods. My understanding is that sear, ejection port, and magwell opening modifications were strictly prohibited, and that was always the reason why stemple guns were limited to pistol calibers. No doubt that stemple tubes are stronger than a AR upper receiver…

John Stemple and others were too busy making "fence post" or tube guns that they were not consistent "where" the S/N and manufacturing data was stamped. If it was on the "tube" itself, you could make an MP-40, Swedish K, STEnling, Sterling or whatever. You can contact Brian Poling of Stemple Take Down Guns, but I think this was the main driving force...where the Serial Number was located.

I remember seeing a "slotted" fence post at DTV Tactical in Hendersonville, TN, and the markings were on the "tube"...5 in all if I remember correctly. Stemple had traded tubes for Suppressors in the Burgess deal and I think those markings were on the magazine wells. Those were the few that were 9MM and should have used STEn magazines...maybe a variance for the S&W Magazines??? I always liked Stemples myself, but they were like the PCB, FL and Irving, CA MK-760's; they needed work to "run"!

I can only imagine how many tubes he had to sell them for nearly 40 years…..
I believe he only had 100 tubes as his settlement of the 10+ year long lawsuit between he and John Stemple.

Somewhere in a previous post it referenced an article that was written around the time he brought these to market, and it said he had enough tubes for only 100 guns.

I am a fairly new owner of an SW76, having acquired mine from Jim back in March 2025, and have put over 4,000 rounds through it to date. Other than an extractor tip breaking off around the 1,400 round mark, it has been absolutely trouble free. It is a common occurrence for “Old Timers” to come up to me after seeing it run and tell me it is the best running 76 gun they’ve ever seen.

I believe these guns will indeed increase in value once Jim sells out his remaining inventory, as they are actually a superior product compared to other S&W76 clones. The recoil spring guide has a spring loaded plunger that prevents the recoil spring from “kinking” in its travel, and the relocated extractor location should technically improve extractor life. Also, the trigger pin is easily removable (not riveted like other clones and original S&W’s), so a trigger bar repair should be easily accomplished when necessary.

My gun had a lot of looseness in the magazine fitment when using standard Suomi magazines, but this was easily corrected with several wraps of electrical tape on each mag, building them up as needed to remove the excess play. Now that I’ve done this individually for each magazine, I can insert the mags and use them as a forward hand grip with 100% reliability.

My buddy (who also owns an Uzi and an original S&W76) just recently purchased a Burgess gun from Jim, after running mine and realizing what a great value they are in today’s market.

I just got off the phone with Scott Andrey. He is still manufacturing parts and is willing to do bolts if anyone is interested. I would suggest giving him a hollar.

I really wish Scott would have done the work he said he would or given back my Stemple parts instead of ignoring me for 12 years.

I have been trying to purchase parts from Scott for many years. He filled one or two orders several years ago but the rest of the time he ignored my attempts. I was on his list for a run of bolts at one time but nothing ever became of it. His website says his preferred method of contact is email, I just tried it and it bounced. He should take his website down. or support it. Very frustrating.

Guys, hopefully NavGunner will be making some more parts that break / wear out on the S&W76/mk76 and clone platforms. Heck, he’s already got extractors and I’m fairly certain the steps he goes through to make sure a product will be right, is more than most of the guys out there.
He supports the community on here and has brought a lot of things to market that were desperately needed.
I’d try to message him, if you’re looking for any of the aforementioned parts. Maybe, just maybe, he’ll make bolts for the 76’s too.

Thank you for your generous support, @KickStand !

1. I’m in the process of making S&W76/MK760 parts now, but it takes an enormous amount of time and energy to make sure that they’re done properly. I could’ve released components a few months ago but the parts were only 90% ready to go, but that’s good enough to meet my standards. Thanks to the help of people like you, we’re squeezing that last few percent out to make sure that these things are done properly.

2. Scott Andrey has served our community for many years and for that I’m incredibly thankful. That being said, my personal experiences with him have been frustrating too but not because of his parts. When (really if) they do arrive they are of superior quality, but it’s that he’s slow to communicate or all together unresponsive after promising to deliver goods that seem to rarely come (but when they do, they’re very high-quality). It pains me to write this about it because I really do like the man. It’s my sincere hope is that Scott would focus on a few of the critical parts and makes a bunch of them because our community could really use it. There’s plenty of other opportunities out there for guys like me. He’s so damn good at what he does that it’s a shame that he can’t fill promised orders

I'm glad 76 parts will be available again.

It was very sad to hear about Richard Hoffman passing away. He had started making 76 parts and great videos.

I have been monitoring your website Navgunner. It is great to see you are supporting this small community. The only part I am wanting at the moment is a bolt for my Fruithurst. Before Richards passing he was advertising bolts but I was slow to warm up to the price. By the time I decided to get one he had passed. Did he ever actually produce and fill orders for bolts? I would also be interested in a replacement trigger bar but I am not having an issue with mine at this time.

I happen to own one of the Stemple SW76sub guns. Its a great little sub gun and I also use the suomi mags with mine. I can't remember my SN off hand but I believe mine came from Jim Burgess years ago. I also have a Gemtech SG9 suppressor for mine that was designed for the smith and wesson M76. its a real cool sub gun one of my favorites next to my Thompson!
