I recently discovered a crack in the upper of my SWD M11/9. It is just below the ejection port, cracked completely, through and through. Can this be re-welded? Or just easier to buy a complete new barrelled upper? is there a good source for OEM MAC parts.... specifically, a new barrelled upper for my SWD M11/9 SMG?

BTW, if anyone can explain why I can never attach a picture to my posts here on uzitalk.com, I'm all ears! I always get an error message similar to the below, whenever I try.......

I did one just to see if it was possible. I'm no welder and this pic proves it. A real welder could do a proper repair. But at the cost of a stripped upper, I don't think welding is worth the time/trouble.

What’s a good source for OEM Cobray, MAC, SWD etc parts?

A good welder could repair it. The welds would need to be cleaned up to hide it and refinished.

It’s made of steel…of course it can be welded (not re-welded as it was never welded there to begin with). You would only HAVE to clean up interior weld as that’s where the bolt moves. Refinishing? Yeah, if you wanted to…I think battle scars are cool…something to wake the conversation.

I clicked on that link, and it looks like the one they advertise is for “SMG/SA” ...... So the same upper will fit and operate correctly on both a semi auto and a full auto, confirm?

Yep…an upper is an upper.

I use Lage Mfg for well made parts, including OEM BCGs.
I like the Lage Max-11SK as a replacement to the regular upper...

I've also had good service from Sam and Co at Practical Solutions...

I'm with Jake. Do it if you want the practice or are sentimental or something, but with reasonably available modern replacements, including side cockers with rail on the top, it isn't worth the effort.

The first thing I did when I got my M11/9 was to replace the upper. Replacing the stock came about a minute later. I think they're dangerous to shoot in stock configuration.
