I was fire blueing another part, thought I’d refresh the M11 trigger.

Turning blue from purple means heat is approaching 610F

Interesting… looks kinda like a “case hardened” finish

Best to buy a hot plate, single burner is fine from McMaster Carr. 900 degrees, you catch the blue as it passes the 610F range. Dunking in water stops the heating when the color is what you want. Metal must be mirror polished first, totally degreased with acetone (best) or several times with rubbing alcohol.

Might make a tutorial someday.

Thank you Sir! This sounds like a cool project. Heating those Triggers won't mess up their heat treatment? I guess it doesn't matter, it's a trigger not a sear? Am I crazy, or does that make sense

Heat tempering is used after hardening in some cases to condition depending on purpose. Springs, straw color parts on Lugers, etc.

Nitre Blued some M11 Parts (Project)

I always liked the peacock blue colored small parts on the early Colts. The thread title is a bit misleading as I didn’t use Nitre salts which is commonly used today for this purpose, I used heat like Colt did in the past. I read somewhere they used a gas furnace for the fire blue triggers...

original RPB Ingram M10 “assassination kits” as they were so affectionately referred to by the press in the early 80s…(they got it wrong though, it holds 3 extra clips, not just one)

You can also fit an additional mag pouch in there for 3 or 4 more of them. The bags are actually quite roomy and can easily accomodate quit a bit of extra accessories, including a shoulder holster, as well as the 4 laughably thin Kevlar pads they are designed to accept.









The case was also originally advertised to accept a police tear gas canister, the small “accessory” pocket does seem to be the perfect size..

.380 converted to 9mm with CFW bolt.
Ammo is 147grain with 3.1 grains of N320
