A MK8 is a rare UK FACTORY SBR( I have one) only 70 were produced, and of that only 55 got out of the Sterling Factory in Dagenham before it closed, most of those 15 that were in the factory, are held in the Royal small arms collection and will never see light of day again.. I told you he dont have a %$&#*ing clue as to what he has....he thinks its something from WW2
It is the rarist authentic Sterling a mere mortal in the U.S. can own.

Should be a closed bolt, semi-auto, SBR if it is a real MK8. "CBS" should be marked on gun (Closed Bolt, Semi-auto). Trigger group looks right, so I don't know why it would be full auto.

If interested I would ask more questions and get more pictures to verify. If the guy truly "doesn't know what he has", it stands to reason he may not be reliable in representing what he is selling (?!).

Lots of parts are not interchangable with the MK IV, so unless you are where you can legally own a S.B.R. but not a S.M.G., I can see more disadvatages than advantages, with lack of spare parts.

Otherwise, if you are a collector and it is genuine.... 1 of 70 and Sterling "supposedly" never exported any...?

Maybe this is a sbr that someone made from a parts kit and just marked the magwell MK8. I would be interested in who regestered it.
The grips look a little beat up for how nice the rest of the gun looks maybe it is just the pictures I dont know.

Not all of them were marked with the "CBS MK8" Marking, (Mine isnt) that had to do with what market it was intended for when marked. the ones with the CBS markings were intended to make the U.S. oversee'ers happy.
, as was the read manual before use that is stampted on that one, below the Dagenham address on the left side of the trigger (mine dont have that either, it has the emporter Lanchester USA Dallas Tx below the Dagenham address, then all of it covered at the factory with the crinkle paint)

All of the serial numbers should start with "SA" though

Spare parts are not that much of a problem, as most running parts are the same as a MK6, the barrel is a MK4 smg barrel with a slight notch for the "popsickle stick" to run under.....most everything wiselite sells as spares would work..including spare firing pins

Here is mine, note the 'SMG" and L2A3...

"SMG" and "L2A3" markings not overstamped with "POLICE CARBINE"; would appear to indicate that it is one of the early closed bolt, semi auto MK3's (1 of 17), but the trigger on your gun is a MK4. There were 490 L2A4 closed bolt, semi-auto Police Carbines produced, after the 17 MK3's. "P" prefix should be in the serial number, not "AA" or "SA".

If Its a MK8 it would be marked as such, with all the ATF required warnings and modifications, making most all MK4 internals "non-interchangable", unless tube or parts were modified. Nothing from a MK4 would be a "drop In" replacement.

The MK8 was of limited importation, since it was a SBR (70 produced from 1983 to 1988), but even more rare would be the POLICE CARBINE, since no one really knows how many were imported or remained in the country in civilian hands. They did not have the ATF mandated changes, and were essentially SMG tubes with semi-auto parts.

yes, a MK8 will be marked as a MK8...its the CBS marking that seems to not be on every example produced of the 70

of course mine has the closed bolt/separate firing pin as used in a MK6 semi auto carbine, a semi auto only trigger group without the dogleg (seems most of the semi auto MK6 carbine groups I have seen has the dogleg that sticks up)

But the only physical change to the receiver itself on my example are the so called popsikle stick, and small square metal pad to preclude install of a select fire group.....thats really the only difference in my example receiverwise from the regular subgun tube.

Nice pictures of a rare gun. The fact that yours doesn't have all the warnings stamped on it, and the unique serial number, I would think makes it all the more collectable.

was published, on the MK8, And will pass along anything I hear back.

"Dear John, your Mk8 is quite interesting. When there was a big demand for different guns, they'd just make up the numbers from others..... just like they've done with yours.

Yours started its life as a standard Mk4 sub machine gun and the second line would have read 9mm Mk4 (L2A3) but there was a demand for Mk8's so some Mk4's were converted to Mk8's from almost completed casings, just before they were phosphated. The original engraving will have been filled in and simply over engraved.

I bet that if you looked under the hard crackle paint you'd find the old Mk4 designation and maybe the old Mk4 SI prefix serial number but not necessarily the serial number because these were always put on last, just before painting"
