So, I got the email from Lage today that it's time for me to order. Not sure if I should drill or go with the IRM. I like the idea of trying different buffers and springs to reduce the ROF. I'm also not likely to try other calibers, so this will just be .223. The IRM may be easier, but I wonder if drilling the hole will make it more "adjustable" so I can tune it to the desired ROF?

Looking for feedback from those of you who have one or the other, and how you arrived at your decision. Thanks!

IRM, then in December when they start selling spare parts you can buy what you need for the drill version.

C’mon drill er now! IRM only is like a sports car with only two gears.

Whats worse about the IRM besides not being able to change buffer weight?

if your not planning on doing anything extra with it, leaving it stock--get the IRM

on future larger calibers (AK) you will probably have to drill. i would wait and see what comes out, you can always switch things over to a drill/buffer later

i plan on getting the IRM for my m11a1

but if they come out with an AK for my M10 ill drill!

If you don't mind, what number were you? I'm curious to figure out how close they are to calling me.

I have the hole already, Im still going to buy the IRM first and get the other parts at a later time. The worst part about the hole is not getting to easily use the stock you want when you switch back to 9mm.

How does the hole make any difference? The buffer covers the hole from the inside as far as gas coming out through the hole. So I would think that as far as function, there is no limitation as to the stock that is used.

I think I'm going to drill the hole so I can play with the ROF a bit more. Thanks for all the input!

I just don’t like the Ar stocks on a Mac and don’t want to change back and forth

A factory style upper looks horrible w an ar stock

The gas block will change rof somewhat.

Once it’s tuned that’s the best speed for your gun

I actually prefer the look of the AR stock on the 11/15 as I think it looks better than the folder. To each his own, I guess. That's the nice thing about the Mac style of guns...lots of options. The buffer spring and buffer weight will also change the ROF, so having that flexibility is what I prefer.

Im sorry brother - I was drinking and probably did not use my words all that well. Its not that you cant use any stock you want, its just a pain to switch them out was what I was getting at, and Im with Battering ram, I like the Uzi Style/Lage folding stocks looks better on the mac than the AR ones. So basically, Im lazy.

I keep seeing this comment from people, and I can’t help but wonder what you are doing?

Leave the OEM spring-loaded latch in place and use whichever stock you want. Push the button and swap out at will. Takes all of 5 seconds.

I’m with you Garrett, but if you drill a hole for an oprod to work with an AR type buffer, I’d think you’d want the stock attachment to be more solid. Still, a hex wrench and less than thirty seconds for the single bolt used to hold most stocks in place doesn’t seem like a deal breaker to me.

On the OP’s subject...
Most AR-15 owners will never replace or experiment with the buffer their rifle came with. There’s little to be gained whennit runs as expected. Being a RR M-16 owner, i understand the benefits of being able to use different buffers and I’d opt to drill the hole for the Lage 11-15.
