I think I just figured something out, my tx. Mac 10 9mm uses the plastic zytel mags with the trapezoid shape that I hate. I thought after the ban someone would make a new steel mag (not) see my mac uses the single feed mag so at the gun show one day I pick up a mac 11 mag that has the same shape and take it home and check the fit low & behold I find I can cut a notch for the mag release and add a mag stop (weld wire on front) and I have a working metal mag. Now all I need to do is find more mags so I order some, damn they are not single feed so I send them back and try again this time I order some south African mac 11 mags they work great with the mods I did before and tweak the lips they run perfect no jams no misfeed I’m astatic try to order more and there out (sh*t) so I order some m11/pm11 steel mags at $9.99 each from cdnn and they are the same as the African mags & work great ! Now I might add that the whole time I have been on this quest I have talked to people at shows that have for sale tx. Macs I have emailed dealers before I order and they either don’t know what I’m talking about or they all swear that the gun will not take any other mags. Now I know that is not true and with a little modifications you will have a good running gun with metal mags why some one will not make them I don’t know cut a lower slot and add a stop and you have a mag that will work in both guns (I think I don’t own a mac11) Yes some of you out there did know this but it can’t be that many I mean some people are chopping off there lower mag well to get the fix. This thread is way to long and your eyes are bleeding so I’ll add my next discovery under this one:heavy

tx. mac 10/9

My next discovery. I have always thought that if they made this gun and marked it with 9mm/.45 it should be able to shoot both ( I’m still talking about the tx. mac-10) well there I was at the gun show again looking at mags and I pick up a mac 10 .45 steel mag and it looks like it has the same trapezoid shape and I compared it to a zytel and it look like it might work I take it home and check the fit and found that all I had to do was remove some metal on the back (see pic). And it fits I put the 45 upper on my gun & put some snap caps in it and cycle it and it feeds great. Now here is the problem, it was the only mag the man had so if some one knows please help me out it is a mac-45 mag with the trapezoid shape (the same shape as the plastic zytel) I had to remove metal on upper back I think that is where the mag is spot welded together even if it starts to come apart I can weld it back together and grind it off but so far it is holding. Yes it is a snug fit not to bad but no other mods needed to be done I’ll take it out and try a run as soon as I can if every thing goes ok I have a tx. mac-10 with no mods to the gun in original condition that shoots both 9mm and .45 acp Thanks for letting me ramble on:50_cal

Actually, that's a double-feed 9mm mag. But if it runs with .45, no problem. I have a couple of those that someone gave me, but that I never used.

I actually like the zytel mags. You put a set of steel feedlips on them and there is nothing better. They load easier, and run great.

mags

I’d say your right on the I.D. of the mag. This one must be worn out if you try to put a 9mm in it they won’t hold just pop right out. All I have loaded it with are snap caps and I only have 4 caps may not feed or may jam with the real thing but hey it’s real close something I can work on see if I can get it to work. The plastic mags are gone now that I have 12 steel I use the load tool so It’s no big deal the springs are weaker on the Zytel but I prefer the performance and indestructible or almost indestructible metal mags. I let a friend and his son load up some mags(plastic) I said you load em you can shoot all you want unfortunately I didn’t catch it till the last mag they loaded 5 mags using the load tool and pushing it down through the lips, needless to say it jammed on the first round (I always stand next to someone shooting so I can take the gun to clear if there is a problem) I pulled the bolt back and the mag just spit all the rounds out I had to laugh at my own stupidity I never thought to make sure they knew how to use the tool. But that was it for me and plastic mags there had to be a better way to go. Thanks for your info:heavy

Ohhh Noooo!!!! You never really would know what a newbie would do... Some things that you would never think of....

A buddy of mine... Just talked him into his first NFA.... A 22 suppressor for his 10/22... He is simply thrilled with it... A TAC 67 can... First thing he said... Will this fit on my M16??? ACK Yes but it will explode....

He called the other day grumbleing.... He can't find his bird shot.... I said your not going to shoot that out of the suppressor are you??? He said yea why???? ACK....

My Zytels dont work worth darn

I have a SWD Texas 9mm MAC, and the original Zytel as well as an extra one I bought dont work really at all. They both Jam or misfeed, and sometimes the bullets get pushed down nose first into the mag...do most of you guys have no problems with the 9mm Zytels? If not, then maybe I just have some bad ones and need to buy a couple more to see if those work....

My dozen or two Zytel mags work well, until such time as they crack on the back.

The metal older PS mags work if you change the mag catch (had a dozen in the junk box) but really should have a feed ramp weld in for double feed mags.
