I've got a Century serial #galxxx, went to the range with it right out of the box, got to the range and broke it down to clean it and lube it up to fire some rounds to test it. There was a piece of plastic(rod) in it. Luckly I always clean and check new rifles. Shot fine except one of the mag that came with it was a POS. Sent it back and got another one. Second time I went to the range had a brass round separate at the neck. Third time no problems. Fourth time I went to a practical rifle match(Like IDPA match but with rifles). On the 5 stage it would not load a round kind of like a round had separated in the bore. Checked it, it was clear. Loaded a new mag and reshot the stage. Reading everything on here makes me nervous. Thinking I'm gonna try the adapter to ar mags route. I'm glad I got referred over here, you guys are a wealth of info and resources. More to follow the next time I get to go and shoot it.

bought a golani several years ago. shot with no problems whatsoever. but several hundred rounds through it and my trigger reset spring went bad. all in all, a beautiful rifle. action is great, fires whatever i feed it, no mag probs (metal or tapco). i just worry when the other shoe will drop.

anyone know where i can get a trigger reset spring?

That is one thing I agree on, Century produces extremely crappy hammer/trigger/sear aftermarket sets. Buy a few Tapco Galil mags so you can claim US part compliance, and replace it with a real Galil set. The Tapco mags have been flawless in my Golani.

I second the Tapco mag endorsement.

Much easier to load and a lot better fit then either of the 2 steel ones that came with the rifle. This rifle has always fed from any mag and these are no different.

My Century Galil clone smashed bullets into the casings and jammed at first. Fixed it myself. No huge deal to me, but still it should have been right from the start. So for what I bought it for (like $550 if I recall) + 35.00 for a brand new extractor and spring + plus a few hours of my time to fix it, I have $585 into a Galil clone that will eat any 5.56 with zero issues and is pretty damn accurate to boot.

+ 1 on the tapco galil mags, they run excellent in my galil clone as well.

Mine was at total POS! every problem that has been attributed to these rifles mine had! Sent to Jeff 4 times. Finally after alot of conversation and brainstorming by Jeff and friends I think we finally got it right. Several hundred rounds later it runs great. Of course Jeff just about totally rebuilt this rifle. New barrel-New bolt-New extractor and spring-New flashhider-Redrilled gas hole in new barrel.New sight block.New stock knuckle. A complete repark. Shim bullet guide-radius chamber ect. By the way Jeff is a Great guy to deal with, very patient and really went the extra mile to get this rifle to work. Cant say enough good about him.

Against my better judgement but going on a recommendation from another forum, I bought ANOTHER Golani, this time from Henderson Defense Industries.

They sell them as "Certified". Not sure what that means. I'm guessing that they test fire and check for cant.

It's a GAL 049xx

I shot 80 rounds of Tula steel-cased HP through it on Tuesday. Got it sighted in and no problems.

I then zeroed my AR15 and when I went back to shoot the Golani, I'd get cases stuck in the chamber after every round.

I did clean it before I shot it but I'm wondering if I did a good enough job. I ordered a new extractor and spring just in case.

I don't know if the receiver is soft but I didn't notice any peening on the extractor rail. I'm probably going to send it to Jeff to have him give it a once-over, just to be sure.

Don't shoot crappy ammo in it and expect it to work. I totally despise all russian steel cased 223 ammo, nothing but problems with it.

Is that right? I use the Russian stuff because of the ejection peening on the case.

Hate to waste good brass on it.

I do reload but it throws the cases so far, I'd never be able to gather them at the range I shoot at.

What disposable brass would you recommend? The milsurp corrosive stuff?

Kargo, inspect and polish your chamber. Century doesn't do a very good job of protecting the chamber when they refinish the rifle and many have had the same problem. I run any and everything thru mine. Only time I used brass I had about 500 rounds on hand the wife gave me as a Christmas present one time. :moon

I will never know for sure if this thread and others like it cost me money or saved me money but they caused me to bite the bullet and save enough $ for two IMI, 386 & 397large S, AA import original Galils. My advise is to save your $ until you can aford the real deal. You might spend alittle more but you will have saved alot of aggravation and you can shoot without worrying that someday you could end up with a bolt carrier sticking out of you forehead!:moon

Thanks Ed. I'll inspect the chamber. Any tips on polishing it?

Jehu, this is my economy rifle. Jeff is building me one with a Blackthorne purchased parts kit.

Use steel wool (0000) or a green scotch brite pad on an old M16/AR type .223 chamber brush on a cleaning rod attached to a drill. Wrap the wool around so it will fit tightly in the chamber, hose it down with WD-40 and start polishing. Take your time and admire your work often. Should solve your problem.

Jeff's builds are simply great!!:thumbs_up He built 2 for me, an ARM (Blackthorne kit) and a "custom" micro. They are beautiful, not safe queens and I can put anything thru them.:moon :moon

PS. This site has the best smilies!!:thumbs_up

Ed, I like that method for chamber polishing better than the one I read on THR.

That's what he's building for me, too! An ARM kit.

I wonder why I don't have any smilies to choose from. :(

"I wonder why I don't have any smilies to choose from." Karl, when you submit a post, go to the advanced box to reply. To the right is smilies, clik on More and you have a whole page to chose from. You can add smilies, preview, edit, etc before you submit the final. BTW, giving serious thought to moving down your way (Granbury, Stephenville, Weatherford). Getting ready to retire for the final time and need to go back home (American by birth, TEXAN by the Grace of God).

Ed, Ahhhh, here it is! :bow :buttkick :mini-gun :moon

Great choices to live! We're in Benbrook on the southside of 20. Granbury is really booming, so is Weatherford. Stephenville is lucky enough to have alien sightings. :) I'm in Granbury and Weatherford every 8 weeks for work.

Well, I used the scotchbrite pad on a wooden dowel and polished the chamber. It looks much better! Haven't shot it but it sure looks better.

I purchased a Golani when they went on sale for $499 at J&G. It was the Caspian receiver serial# GAL05**.. Shot about 400 rounds through it but it kept trying to double feed so I exchanged it at the shop since they had a 30 day return policy. Instead of doing another FFL transfer I drove two hours to the shop and picked out one that seemed solid, stock fits tight, hammer & bolt seem to be a lot newer, gas block sits straight, both bolt lugs making contact on the receiver, and the other little things to check for that i'm forgetting at the moment.. it shot 3" groups at 100 yards. New rifles serial # is GAL018** and I could not be happier. 200 rounds through it the other day and not a single malfunction!! I'm all about original guns but if you inspect it first these things are sweet for the price. I'm using the $500 I saved and am buying a DSA reciever for my Izzy FAL build!!! :50_cal

He told me I might have a few FTE's at first as everything was tight. I have had none since the first time I shot it. :clap

I've fed at least three hundred rounds through my Golani, and I havent had an issue yet. My only complain is the weight, but being a former SAW gunner, thats not a big deal to me.
