Gents,

I've been out of contact for a bit and wanted to come back to a source of truth and knowledge concerning Uzi's.

I have a goal of updating my Uzi SMG and Mini this year with optics and left side charging handle. The charging handle is no problem, but with so many optics options available I thought I'd ask what some of you are using.

My requirement is to mount a optical sight on the top cover. I have a rail that can be modified for my SMG, but would require another to modify for my SBR Mini. I don't want to modify the original top covers if it can be avoided.

Optics should be as small and light as possible. I'm thinking a rail mounted Trijicon RMR or mini EOTech unit.

Any thoughts, suggestions, experiences are solicited. Pictures would be wonderful...

What I really don't want to do hang all kinds of shit all over the weapon. I DO NOT subscribe to the swiss army knife philosophy applied to weapons.

Docter Optic on Amphibian top cover.

Have that combo on my GI HR4332 and love it.

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. I've been away from the site for awhile. After looking a bit I stumbled on the article about Amphibian's conversions and the Dr. Optic unit. Slick!

I believe that the conversion will work with the Burris Fastfire which has the same "footprint" as the Dr. Optic unit.

Correct me if I'm wrong. My wife does it all the time.

Wes,
See this link: http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22793&page=10
I'm actually using a FastFire mount which screws onto the custom mount that is welded to the topcover. The FastFire mount works w/ both the Docter and FastFire. Note also that the FastFire II is out now which is also waterproof. I provide the FastFire mount w/ the service/topcover.

Regarding the side cocker, I personally don't like them as I shoot in SMG matches that require support side shooting. The stock UZI charging 'knob' is already in an ambidextrous position.

Amphibian,

This sounds like the cat's pajamas. I'm going to go for it. I just have to decide which platform to test this on...my SBR Mini or the full size SMG.

I'm thinking this would be slick on the smaller Mini.

Your thoughts or advice?

What's the current wait/turn around time for the conversion work?

I don't shoot competiton with the Uzi, but think I'll leave well enough alone there...don't need to tie up the gun in a moment of need.

All the best,

Wes

This is the only setup to my knowledge that will co-witness for either the Mini or full size. There are plenty more options for the full size since there is more real estate on that bigger topcover but again none will co-witness except my setup.
Co-witnessing is important to me but may not be to you or others. I like to maintain the same cheek weld using both irons or optics. I think for the Mini you have so few options for optics and this one of them but since it is only semi, I would probably do the full size since yours is a SMG. Turnaround is of course longer to send your topcover in. I'll have to check with Phil as he was supposed to have some full size topcovers done this week. Ever since our new President took office he has been slammed with work. Contact me offline if you need more detailed status on turnaround times etc.

Amphibian,

If your friend had a modified full size top cover for an full size SMG I'd take it rather than send in my top cover for modification.

Of course, I can send in my top cover for modification if "pre-made" units are not available.

Please advise. I really appreciate your help on this...

Wes

P.S. Co-witnessing is very important. I use a co-witnessed Aimpoint on my Colt LE Carbine (It's the "schnitz"). The ability to have a "pop-up" the rear buis and have the same "spot weld" for your cheek is critical, IMHO.
