I have a fleming converted model B. Blocking bar removed, semiauto size trunnion, and milled feed ramp with no ring.
In looking at smg caliber conversions (.22 and .45) I know I would need to turn down the portion of the barrel that sits in the trunnion. Do i need to turn down the breech end as well? The semiauto spec barrel that’s in the gun is turned down at the breech. I’m assuming that was for the now non existent restrictor ring. Is the “saddle” of the milled feed ramp going to require turning down smg barrels to fit properly?

My Black Dog .22 conversion kit has a turned down breech end to fit in the ‘saddle’ of the now chopped down restrictor ring and feed ramp. I’m sure the barrel was also turned down to fit the semi reunion in my conversion Model A.

Did it come that way or did you turn it down? I am wondering how the breech end of the 22 barrel responds to being turned down. It is not a smooth surface, but has notches for the extractor and such.

Hi Jtm35a2,

Turning down the breach end of a 22 conversion barrel for the F/A kit to the same diameter as the S/A barrel breach is common, acceptable, and it works. It takes about 2 minutes in a good lathe to turn the breach end of the 22 barrel. Don't worry. The interrupted cut isn't a problem in the steel that is used in the barrel.

Enjoy,

K2

I wouldn’t modify the kits to fit the semi trunnion. I would open up the trunnion to accept the FA barrels. Bring the gun up to smg spec. I’m here for this if you need it done Andrew @ AK Arms 6033404339

It came that way when I purchased it.

I appreciate your offer. And maybe I am wrong, but I am thinking the semi trunnion and access to a lathe is the best place to be. I can buy whatever barrel is available and make it work, semi or smg.

Nothing wrong with that. I just think long term bringing the gun to smg spec is better for resale, and leaving the conversions smg spec also better for resale long term. But that’s just my opinion I could be wrong. The conversions might be worth more to someone in semi format who knows. It’s all worth what ppl will pay lol

The gun runs so well, I hate to change anything. It even runs hollow point ammo.

I hear you there. Just speaking from experience in the 22 kits they are super finicky as it is I hate to see you modify it to SA and have issues with it not feeding. Not saying it won’t feed but once you mod the barrel at the chamber end it may cause more issues than opening trunnion

That exact thought has crossed my mind. I have bought the 2 kits in a combo. Both are new/unfired. I may just sell off the 22 kit to avoid the pitfall you mentioned.
I feel like mine runs so well because of the feed ramp. Changing the trunnion size does not effect that. So unless i go full regalia and change the feed ramp too, I end up with some kind of bastard as far as barrel needs. I’m not touching the feed ramp.
